I took a bunch of pictures comparing my new X60s to my T43. Here they are. Also a few pics of the X60s by itself, in ultrabase, etc. They are fairly big pics for XGA users, so I am linking to them instead of posting them directly.

X60s back, in Ultrabase

X60s right side, in Ultrabase

X60s and T43 thickness Note that the X60 is slightly thinner in the front, and slightly thicker in the back (due to the battery)

X60s and T43 Batteries The X60s' 8 Cell is actually bigger than the T43's 9 Cell.

Nice pics , I thought the size difference would be much greater that it seems in the pictures.

Yea, they *look* very close in terms of size, but the key is, and this is tough to describe exactly, but the X60s *feels* much smaller.

The X series isn't exactly tiny as far as small laptops are concerned.

Toshia Librettos... now THAT's tiny.

But the X40 is almost the smallest laptop that's still easy to use. I have played with the Librettos U105 and it's impossible to type fast. And at 2.2 lbs, it's actually not that much lighter than the 2.7-lb X40.

It would also depend on the size of an individuals fingers I guess.

I guess experienced Blackberry users or users of Windows CE Clam-shell PDAs might not mind small keyboards :P

My X31 is pretty small compared to my T43 (15 inch model). But then again the 14 inch model T-series is a pretty compact machine by itself.

Those photos were fantastic. Yes, the OP removed them a while ago. BTW, this T43 was sold to me last August, and then I sold it in January to an MIT grad student.

If you're interested, I have a few (lower-quality) photos of this same T43 sitting next to my current T60 in this photo album.

Why do I get the feeling that the T43 is thinner than the T60 everytime I see those photos? I somehow like the T44x lid design better than what is there on T60.

Partly because the T60 is on top, so it's slightly closer to my camera, and partly because the bottom half of the T43 chassis slants inward whereas the T60 is flat. In terms of weight, the two are almost identical: T43 = 5.17 lbs, T60 = 5.22 lbs.

Hmmm, the URL works on my machine. Another way to access those photos is, go to http://s198.photobucket.com/albums/aa131/piano_wizard/ , then click on "T43 and T60".

BTW, a friend bought a 15.4" MacBook Pro two weeks ago, and another friend is expecting to receive a brand-new 15.4" T60 next week. I will take some photos of these laptops with my 15.4" Dell Inspiron 6000 together, to show how three of the most popular 15.4" laptops compare. I am sure my Dell will be the ugliest, but it's also by far the cheapest ($495 vs. $1900 and $1200), and it has the highest resolution, 1920x1200 vs. 1440x900 and 1680x1050. So I still think the Dell is the best deal.

I saw a portege in the album.. thanks pianowizard for the link

What do you guys think about the portege R205-S2062.

I would also get a portege but the lack of trackpoint is making me wait also. currently there are only pentium m versions of the portege but you gotta love how thin the portege is.
