About this time of the year downunder these critters come out from under the house and roam around the floor. I haven't been bitten yet but it's only a matter of time I think... I collect the ones I see and relocate them to the neighbour's yard!

What part of Australia are you from? Hopefully not in Penrith!

I'm down in Tassie on top of a small mountain. The one in the picture is about the "normal" size but thankfully I haven't seen any much bigger. Not sure what you get at Penrith??

Mainly the odd huntsman on the wall in my bedroom...otherwise we have a bit of a cockroach problem at my house, but none of them have ever got near my T40. Nor shall they ever have the chance to

I think I would cry to my Mother if I saw that in my house, let alone on my ThinkPad! I'm guessing you so kindly placed it there?

While it would suck to be attacked by one larger than that, I wouldn't mind actually being able to see the darn thing!

Yes, this was a posed shot from a relatively docile and reluctant participant that was about to be relocated. The younger ones are cute but more problematic as they are more agile and scurry about. Apparently the sting isn't so bad after the initial shock but still I wouldn't want to test it out! The huntsman spiders are more of a worry as they have this magical ability to slide into crevices and door frames. But once disturbed they dart off and jump about all over the place! The adult scorpions on the other hand will stand defiantly and challenge any being.

I lived in Arizona for sometime, them things were crawling all over the place...the "young/new born" are "white" or more like "clear"...

Had some friends over and they slept on the couch and on the floor, one of them had a sleeping bag...he about *hit himself when he opened his sleeping bag in the morning and found a scorpion sharing his "bed" with him...not to mentioned he screamed like a girl.....

Blackwidows were a big thing as well, a friend got bitten in the arm...stupid him, he figured it would "get better"...i think 2 or 6 hrs later (can't remember" his arm was about three times its normal size....in the hospital the outlook was not good...but after they hooked him up to more tubes with "anti-venom" then I cared to count...he came out of it OK!

Rattlers can STILL bite (so I heard) after you cut the heads off...don't personally know anyone that has been bitten by one.....I do know someone that was bitten by a brown recluse (sp?) during her teenage years...twenty year later and her scar still looks HORRIBLE...them critters can be NASTY!!

This is when I am happy to be in New England. The worst thing we get here are a few bees during the summer.

When do scorpions like that become lethal?

Here, dogs are the most dangerous animals you will find !!!

Hummmm, well, I was attacked by a bee when I was young, and hit on the lip... It wasn't funny at all...

Anyway, nice guard for your lappy, better than fingerprints reader, or POP !
