See my pictures here.

It's a thinkpad R60 and an iBook G4.

That's really hard to say. I absolutely love the trackpoint and the higher screen resolution on the R60 (most of the time running xubuntu, windows when doing webdesign stuff for example). On the other side I really love working in osx. (for example I love textmate)

I just use them both at the same time and depending on what I'm doing the one or the other. Sometimes I'm surfing on the thinkpad and IM on the ibook for instance. Or I use textmate for webdesign on the ibook and check the site in browsers on the thinkpad running windows.
As you can see on the pictures they are connected directly using an ethernet cable. On the thinkpad (other direction is possible too) I mount the ibook HD as a folder using ssh and thus can easily share files and the like. (7MBps connection) I also can get files from an external harddrive connected to the ibook this way.

Because the ibook is lighter and smaller I use it to go to school.

As you notice, I don't really prefer one more than the other. I would say (although not 100% correct) the thinkpad has the better hardware, the ibook the better software (OSX, textmate etc.).

I would be ashamed to post a picture of my work area.

I have way to many computers and associated stuff packed into too small a space. Right now, my T21 is parked on a Gateway Solo 9300, which is on top of a Compaq Deskpro. All this is perched atop a piece of wood that spans across a Gateway essential and an aftermarket PC of matching height. Between those, are another aftermarket PC and an HP Pavillion to "fill the gap"

Joe,

Now that you've described it, I really need to see a picture of your setup!

I'll see if I can capture it all.
Seriously, I have about 50 desktops in various state of...ummm...repair and about 12 laptops.
Working units all told is about 10 desktops and 6 laptops.

Guess I need a bigger basement or a dumptruck.

So... some things changed.

photo

- The desk has turned 90°.
- I bought a Macbook
- I made a wooden tablet so the screens are higher
- I got an old crt (which I had used before)
- The stereo installation is now more hidden and the boxes themeselves lie on a shelf beneath my desk (there's a gap behind the desk for the sound to come through)
- I bought a usb hub (which is under/behind the tablet)
- I bought a Mighty Mouse
- I bought a Logitech Ultraflat keyboard
- I use synergy to share the keyboard/mouse connected to the macbook with the thinkpad (using straight ethernet connection)
- I share the data on my macbook (including external harddisks which are connected to it) with the thinkpad mostly using tcp/ip over firewire (in most cases faster then the ethernet connection)

Very nice setup. The changes are awesome!
"I've come a long, long way," she said, "and I will go as far,
With the man who takes me from my horse, and leads me to a bar."
The man who took her off her steed, and stood her to a beer,
Were a bleary-eyed Surveyor and a DRUNKEN ENGINEER.
