Congratulations on the new child James, you certainly got a good choice of screen sizes. For some reason, I like the one in the middle best.

Is the right hinge on the middle one much smaller? I think it is?

James congrats on your new baby...enjoy it!. Well you die-hard IBM loyalists... um.. certainly the best designed laptop is the T41 (the one in the middle)... but look at its screen image quality... it is the poorest, and no talk about the innards and whole performance... I would take the new T61 too!!! (right corner) and long life to Lenovo....

Lenovo and IBM have somehow made it very hard to bookmark their sites. I've had this problem dozens of times.

It's just set to a lower intensity.

Except the fat monster, I like all the machines.

Great pic, but again, I wish you could go wider and get the whole T61 in there. The oft maligned screen offset is non-existent in your photo. :(

Having all of iit alongside the others will really show how much the difference is.

Indicative of the 14.1" display models, one of the hinges is less than half the thickness of the other.

Links work for me.

It's cranked up all the way! I think it's just a case of the backlight dimming with time and usage, time for a new display.

That's something to look forward to. The battery life on the T61 is abysmal so far, it wouldn't even standby for more than about 8 hours! I must have something set incorrectly.

Yes, perhaps. On my X60s I made my own power schemes. After 36 cycles at 5/7 brightness with wireless on, at the moment it says I have 8 hours left. Realistically I'd cut that number to 6ish. When it was new 9+ easy.

8 hours of standby is not so solid.

hmmm did not realize the bezel around the screen of the T61 was so wide. That seems odd for some reason.

I would hazard a guess that it's to prevent flexing of the display. All of the widescreen laptops I've seen, which is not many, appear to have a wider than expected display bezel.

Flexing even with the LCD rollcage present? I don't think so ... it is for accomodating the antenna ... and AFAIK, the T60p widescreen has a normal looking bezel.

But how much room does that require? Are they using a big fat antenna to optimize reception?

Nothing mentioned officially, but thats what I would guess looking at the pic below ... or maybe they decided to stick the WWAN antenna inside, and leave it "empty" for machines without it, so that they can have a single line for the machines:

Someone gotta compare a T61 and dell e1405 for the size of the LCD casing ...

Congrats on the beautiful family.

Your pictures really illustrate very well the con that is occurring to the uninformed consumer.

A 14" widescreen is much smaller than a 14" normal screen. It is actually few square inches and makes it harder to use just about every application except for spreadsheets. It's the same height as a 12", like the X60, etc.

For many, widescreen (unless you go up in size) is no upgrade.
