My r31 pictures

#1 Post by awong » Mon Aug 20, 2007 1:44 pm

Here's my thinkpad r31, got a good deal on it on ebay. Wish it was the p3 instead of celeron, but it does the job using ubuntu. Everything works, getting a new battery along the way, biggest gripe I have is the turkish keyboard, and using it as an american keyboard it gets confusing, also left key doesnt work well, but I plan on getting a replacement. So far I've got my ram up to 640(it was at 128), added a cdrwdvd combo. So plans are possibly new keyboard, and I'd like 1gig of ram and also internal wireless. Still thinking of putting XP on it if I get the 80gig HD, since I need it to use some engineering programs. if I can get them to work with wine I may use that instead

here are the pics
Image
when I got it, with xp home edition

first attempt at installing ubuntu on it with 128 ram, needless to say, it wasnt working well at all. sorry for the mess, got the laptop and things were all over the place when I took the pic.
Image
i put konqueror on it after i got more ram, like the browser, but didnt care for the look as much as gnome. but it runs well on it. Watching some tvb drama haha
Image
current state working well.
Image
my iriver h10 jr on the r31, just need to figure out how to get it to sync in ubuntu, (anothe reason why I thinking of dual booting), also use two network cards, the one that came only connects on secure networks in ubuntu, which is odd, but the netgear connects on all networks fine, just range is worse, but speed about the same on both

i should probably get a pic of the exterior, its fairly clean unless you look at it up close it looks new

Thats's one clean sweet machine, the newspaper headline "Pick me" can easily apply to that thinkpad!
"I've come a long, long way," she said, "and I will go as far,
With the man who takes me from my horse, and leads me to a bar."
The man who took her off her steed, and stood her to a beer,
Were a bleary-eyed Surveyor and a DRUNKEN ENGINEER.

I saw someone in my class having Thinkpad T30. it looked kinda similar to your R31. I would pick one up from ebay but I'd rather get something IBM certified.

thanks, with the execption of that left arrow key, I was shocked at the quality.

I have a few iriver models I guess out of all the mp3 players I found them fitting all my needs, fm radio, ogg, etc

I think its ok to get laptops off ebay, just gotta be careful. I was looking at barebones and ones missing things to put together, but ended up finding the r31 on accident and for the price I think it was worth the risk
