As can be seen in my signature, I own many more computers and monitors than are shown in these photos. This thread shows only my personal setups, as opposed to those used by people in my lab.

It seems to me that you could gain sound quality by upgrading your speakers but I could be wrong.

I just updated the photos in the opening post because after so many years of not having any Thinkpads, this finally changed with two recent purchases. Actually, they aren't Thinkpad laptops, but instead a Thinkpad 8 tablet, and a Thinkpad USB keyboard.

It seems to me that you could gain sound quality by upgrading your speakers but I could be wrong.

For the most part they sound good enough to me. The Dell soundbar underneath the U2711 monitor is rarely used and when I do use it, it's usually for watching short video clips. The Harman/Kardon computer speakers at the piano and at home are actually quite good. But I have to say the Vizio HDTV's speakers are rather weak especially the bass, and someday I may attach stronger ones.

You have actual real reasons for using lots of monitors. I just struggle with MAS(s) Monitor Acquisition Syndrome.... there doesn't appear to be a cure!

Finally, someone who is also obsessed with acquiring monitors! What kinds of monitors are you interested in?

I am also often tempted to try monitors with new-to-me form factors or resolutions. For example, I have never had the following and am itching to try them: 35" 2560x1080, 34" 3440x1440, 32"3840x2160, 31" 4096x2160, 19.5" 1920x1080.

I recently bought a really interesting (and actually useful) monitor: the Qnix QHD2410r, which allows its VGA input to reach 2560x1440. Read more about it on http://www.forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopi ... 8&t=121701 . I bought it for a postdoc in my lab, whose Thinkpad X201 only has a VGA output, and I wanted him to get more productive by having more pixels on an external monitor. The first monitor that I gave him was 21.5" 1920x1080, then 23" 2048x1152, and now 24" 2560x1440. 2560x1440 provides 17.2% more pixels than QXGA (2048x1536), which is widely thought to be the absolute highest that VGA can go. I wonder if there are 2560x1600 monitors that permit their VGA input to drive the full resolution. My Dell 3008WFP cripples its VGA input at 1920x1200.

Yes indeed! I first heard about it on CNET and looked specifically for the screens' resolution but it wasn't mentioned. Good to know it's 4K. 12 pounds is really fairly light for something with three 17.3" 3840x2160 screens. Both CNET and this article mentioned that this is just a very early prototype. Hopefully it will make it to market!

16:9 monitors are the best. If I want height, I can either use a 40" UHD monitor, or rotate a 24" QHD monitor into portrait. If I want to save desk space, I also do portrait.
