I have a mid-2010 MacBook and 13" MacBook Pro, both with 8GB RAM and an Intel 360 120GB SSD. They work just fine with Snow Leopard. (Too much negative feedback on Lion for my taste.)
I inherited my wife's old R51 and it was solid but not speedy. I tried the MBP out for a while but ended up giving it to my daughter for schoolwork - w/MS Office for Mac 2008. That's when the W520 came into play.
Not sure what my "upgrade" path will be now. W530? Don't really think so. Maybe a Sager based unit. If I must eat the keyboard, I might as well have some flexibility wrt the CPU, GPU, etc.

Here is one I bought from a forum member here on TPF. Pretty nice looking and had a nice bright and vivid screen. It had a pretty slow processor and a keyboard that I did not particularly like (sort of mushy). If the processor had been at least 1.6 G4 I might have kept it
just because

I've been trying to find a more modern one with a Core 2 Duo for a decent price. Still looking...
I just noticed too, that the Macboks have the Fn and Ctrl keys in the correct order too. Nice

Two MacBook Airs at the moment, both 11.6". One is the late 2010 model, the newest one has a backlit keyboard. The late 2010 is up for sale on eBay, but I'll admit I probably would have kept it had FreeBSD detected the wireless card.
I forgot completely about the black Macbooks. I was envious of my buddy who had one several years ago (I was still working with a T41 at the time). Such a nice looking system, but they were just too expensive to justify the cost. I ended up going with the T61 for around $700.

I did get to review the Air earlier this year and had a mini a few years back. I liked them as something different, but I wouldn't pay extra to get one. The thing I liked the most about my Mac is that I was able to sell it for more than I paid for it after two years of ownership, though I did upgrade the hard drive.

I agree they look nice but I would rather own something unique. The fact that Apple laptops (and tablets and smartphones) are everywhere is one of the reasons I don't want to buy a Macbook or iPad or iPhone. Honestly, I am a bit disappointed that these days many young people just want to be like everyone else.

Around that time, I was looking for a good proper UNIX laptop to replace my FreeBSD/T41 setup. FreeBSD couldn't suspend/resume on dual-core processors (and still can't), and KDE was a mess, having just hit 4.0. The MacBook presented an aesthetically pleasing desktop with full hardware acceleration on top of a UNIX core, and I wanted the black one specifically to be as different as possible from the rest of the Mac cult.
Years later, I'm able to afford the MacBook Air for my wife. She is on her second machine now, since they are non-upgradable (soldered RAM, proprietary SSD connector). The high resale value of these machines helps subsidize the cost of the new one, so effectively, I'm just paying a two hundred dollar "upgrade" for a 4x larger SSD, newer generation Intel processor, backlit keyboard, new OS, etc. In turn, my desire to use a Mac has subsided, partially because Fedora + KDE is a pretty good setup on my Thinkpad, but mostly because I think Apple has regressed in the personal computer market. Lion was the "Vista" of MacOS releases, and with non-servicable parts and non-replacable batteries, the hardware has moved on to a different target demographic.

I like how Thinkpad users love this, the rest of the notebook world hates it.

Now I don't have any macs but I used to:
Late 2009 Polycarbonate "Unibody" Macbook:
- Black keyboard from Alu Macbook
- 8Gb Ram
- 500Gb Momentus XT , later Samsung 830 256 SSD
- Obama Pacman sticker
Died when I was trying to fit a hdd caddy (maybe static), worked 2 or 3 more days and then nothing, this is what made buy the X230.
Powermac G4 Gigabit Ethernet:
-G4 400MHz - took a Sonnet 1.2GHz upgrade
-2Gb PC133
-ATI Rage 128 => Flashed Nvidia 6200 256Mb DDR2
-PCI Sata Card => 500Gb Samsung HDD (Even tried an OCZ Vertex 2 SSD but the gains were almost zero)
I liked it so much I decided to write this guide
http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1091765
Later decided to sell the upgrades to fund the G5, and after that sold the machine.
Powermac G5 Quad 2.5GHz:
Nvidia 7800GT - with artic cooler nv5
500Gb Samsung HDD from the g4
6Gb ram
quite a powerfull machine, but I barelly used, sold it for more than I bought it months ago.

Now I have zero macs, I kinda like them, specially the PPC ones, but with the web standarts going up it is hard to keep them (although they are fast for lots of other tasks).
About intel ones :meh

Macs, I've had a few... but then again... too few to mention...
The only one still around worth talking about is my girlfriend's Mid-2012 15" MacBook Pro (non-Retina). It's a TOTL 2.7GHz i7-3820QM unit with 16GB of RAM installed. The boot drive is a 240GB Intel 520, and there's a 2TB Spinpoint M9T where the optical drive used to be, courtesy of a OWC DataDoubler. The optional WSXGA+ anti-glare (matte) display rounds out the config. It's a pretty lovely machine, and I have no idea how we'll ever replace it as I abhor the new non-upgradable sealed-unit new machines...
Oh, and there's an Intel D975XBX2-based Hackintosh that serves as my music computer...

My MacBook Pro hanging out at work. I'm positive it's the only Mac at work. Everything else is Lenovo's.

I've got a 2008 MacBook 13" that I upgraded to Snow Leopard 8gb of RAM and a 1.5TB HDD -- works great! Might put an SSD in and get a kit to put the 1.5 TB HDD into the optical bay but it's a fine little chest-top couch surfer as it is.
Someday I hope to get a 17" Late 2011 MacBook Pro running Mountain Lion for Apple DTP unless I can somehow get a Hackintosh Thinkpad W700 or W701 running.

Macbook 7,1, Mid 2010.
Upgraded with 4GB ram and a Crucial M500 240GB SSD. A second M500 and 2 8GB modules are on the way. The M500 might go into another rig later on, but I'm itching for a raid experiment....
