Speaking of keyboards....this being an IBM forum, I'm surprised we haven't seen more old-school Model-Ms around. Those are the absolute tanks of the keyboard world, and along with the Northgate Omnikeys, some of the best keyboards ever made.

Go look at my pics on page 3. I have a Model M keyboard hooked up to my T23 via a port replicator. I have three more on the shelf but I am not worried about this one wearing out. Ever!
I just hate it when I have to use one of those modern spongy, mushy, cheap keyboards.

Microsoft has some pretty good keyboards if you go with their mid-range and higher end models.

Character is one we use here when selling well used items

I just tell it like it is, no point denying the truth and it ain't up for sale yet

As for meant for being used, hell yeah, I spent enough on this thing, mind you, it;s more than paid me back!

I'm surprised you got a huge monster like the 15" UXGA though. I'm feeling a little envious of all the tiny 10" machines coming out of Japan!

Phone with TV tuner in US? May be in few years time.
We are slow in adapting to technology, unlike Japan or many Asian countries where people live for gadgets.

When i was in Japan, this was in 98-99, there latest gadgets are coming out now here in US.

Yes, we are a little behind as far as gadgets go, but it's really our fault. Remember all the attempts by the Asian companies, most recent one that hits my mind is the Sony Clie, not that big of a hit. In 1999 or 2000, we saw the first colorphones here in The States, people still think twice about buying them. It's not that anyones behind, it's just how the market moves in different regions. If we look at the car market, in Germany, BMW's are common as Fords and a low end BMW with cloth seats and plastic interior is common, here in the US, there is not such thing as a BMW without leather and ones without wood are alomst nonexistant.

Also, while Japan sees the small gadgets first, we see the latest Pentiums first, the T43 is still nonexistant on IBM's Japan site, we saw the modern day PDA, the Pilot in 1996, before anyone else did, and it just goes on. So again, it's really marketing. If the majority of the US had a sudden demand spike for most of those gadgets, the Japanese companies would love our business, but so far, with lots of these things, they seem to be losing money.

Also, while we usually get CPUs before Asia, there have been many instances where the latest Pentium IV skus have shown up IN RETAIL PACKAGING in Akihabara before OEMs have even shipped out state-side.

But it's all true. The US as a whole doesn't care about new electronic gadgets the way the Japanese do. For us, it's the latest clothing, shoes, etc. For them, it's the newest cellphone, game, or super-multifunction toilet

Also, Japanese youth tend to have more disposable income to afford new upgrades and such, ironically because housing is so expensive that they live with their parents for so much longer - hence lower expenditures on rent or food or a number of other necessities.

Well, I do want to argue on one thing with you. If that toilet/lawnmower/washing machine set combo had AM/FM radio, wood trim and leather seats and somehow was compatible with the Atkins diet, it's be a huge hit here.

Well, back to seriousness, nowadays, we are seeing this gadget war here in the States where everyone is complaining about Japan's gadgets, how they are not here. If all of these folks could get together and make the demand visible to the executives, we'd see some of those gadgets here. The Japanese are more than happy to give us their toys in exchange for our dollars, in fact, sometimes, they create entire companies just for the US market, like Toyota did with Lexus and Honda did with Acura.

but you know among all those cool japanese gadget, there are about 70% of useless things.
TV tuner in Cellphone is just cool when you are really bored. Just another batteries drainer.
But really the toilet thing is really cool...warms up your seat, wash your [censored]...

But Japanese don't care about other markets, 70% of their products will never be sold out of the country

Taken in another context, this is exactly the right reason - instead of taking it as an objective statement, let's say the majority of people in the US don't consider the features coming out in a lot of JDM products as useful or worth the money, hence they don't sell as well here, hence they're not generally released here. It sucks for the gadget-loving crowd in the states, but as of yet we're too small of a minority to support any more than the dynamism.com-type importers. It's a shame, really.

Considering the mobility aspects of notebooks in general and Thinkpads in particular I expected more pictures away from desks in the natural envirnonmet of desktop computers

But maybe I shouldn't mention this as long as I haven't contributed my own desk picture. However there are some nice and inspiring details on your pictures.

VERY nice setup there, its always so key to have a good looking flat panel screen on top of the shot, that just completes the ubersetup.

This is the latest shot of my messy desk, though it is clean compared to my office desk at the moment. Sitting on it is my ThinkPad 760XD that I built out of spare parts I had laying around combined with parts I traded from another forum member. Sitting to the left of my ThinkPad is a 14 year old Hewlett Packard 48SX (in mint condition, works great, most engineers should recognize this calculator immeadiatley.), my blue Handspring Visor Deluxe, and a circa 1950-ish or 1960-ish GE light meter (it's the black thing with a big silver dial. Works great and no batteries to replace).

Thanks benz!

It's a Kensington SlimType Keyboard. Non-standard layout, but since my keyboard tray is very small, it works the best. Plus, it's quiet.

Yes, its a Neonode

It's a very nice gadget. However, I miss the T9 since I use text messages alot.

I'm a bit surprised of www.neonode.com won't ship to the US. I mean, the software is english anyways, although one could suspect them for putting swedish software in it. It's very... swedish.. all the way through.
