Hi noel81, hi RS_003,

Wallpaper: http://images.google.de/images?q=teocav ... a=N&tab=wi

Keyboard: I got mine from a company called tradefusion after I did a search for the keyboard on http://www.geizhals.at/de. I paid € 100,81 for it.

It's called IBM USB Travel Keyboard FRU 31P9492.

In the center is the keyboard (1993 Model M, RS6000 model with built in speaker), monitor (Samsung SyncMaster 997DF) and Logitech TrackMan mouse I use to operate my slightly aging Athlon XP 1800+ computer. To the left is my IBM Correcting Selectric II typwriter and my ThinkPad 760ED is to the right of the monitor. I also have a few other goodies here and there on my desk. Posted right below are some links to other pictures of my desk.

*My main desktop, an Athlon XP 1800+ w/ 1.06gb RAM, 120gb 7200rpm hard drive, SB Audigy, Radeon 9000 and some other things is on the left. My retired PII-300 based OptiPlex GXa is on the right.

*Closeup of my ThinkPad 760ED and the PalmPilot Pro I used to have until I gave it away to a friend after recieving a Palm IIIc:

*Whenever I have computer troubles or need to fill out a business form or whenever else occasion calls for it's use, I have an old but strong and reliable IBM Correcting Selectric II to serve my typing needs. I actually picked it up in near mint condition earlier this year for $5.00 from a garage sale.

*A wide angle shot of my desk:

*A really crappy quality photo taken 5 minutes ago with my bad webcam. Pictured is My Palm IIIc and in the background is part of a building blueprint I've started but never finished and a stack of CD's.

Really, warp's got a better choice of keyboard.

Look closely.

It's a Model M13.

Then again, I'd rather have an M13 myself, but haven't found one cheap. And, I'm not really looking all that much, because I'm looking for a car first.

bhtooefr:

I got the M13 on ebay a while back for about $40 (new old stock), and I should have bought a few extra, they are great keyboards.

I noticed, but I don't use a trackpoint, so I still prefer the original Model Ms and Omnikey Ultras.

Sadly, nearly a bygone era...

I had an OmniKey Ultra my dad bought in 1990 and passed onto me in 1999 and finally died in 2001. It outlived any computer it was ever hooked up to. Man I really miss that thing, it made some Model M's look cheap.

Temetka, I like the Mandelbrot desktop, have you ever gone to the physics sites and checked out the java applets for it? pretty wild stuff.

I was wondering how you got the taskbar to look like that? That is cool too.

The visual style looks like the latest version of Luna Element, which is what I'm using. You can find it on Deviantart.com.

Yep, it's the luna style.

I found the fractal on some site. Let me hunt around for the link. Really great stuff.

I'm not putting up a picture of my desk, it's so untidy I'd be ashamed to show it  In any case it doesn't have enough clear space to put the Thinkpad on it, not even an X24...

Hmm... CS (not CS:S), if you dropped the resolution to something like 512x384, dropped all the settings to their minimums, etc, etc., may actually be playable on that. 1.13 P3, right? And it's a Radeon 7000 with 8MB VRAM.

Unreal Tournament not playable on an X31? I'm assuming you're talking about 2003 or 2004. GOTY's almost playable on this X21, underclocked to 500MHz (runs too hot at 700), and using software rendering (faster than trying to use the Rage Mobility M with 4MB VRAM's power, or lack thereof), at 512x384 and minimum settings.

Original half-life/CS (definitely not CS:Source!) have very low system requirements - the minimum spec for HL is a 233MHz Pentium with 32MB of RAM!
I use the Omega display drivers (http://www.omegadrivers.net/) at 16-bit colour depth and 1024x768, and I get 50-60fps in Counter-strike most of the time, even with a few bots running around as well. The only problem is when smoke grenades come into play, the smoke effects can make it chug along at 20fps. I think that's with all default quality settings.
The benchmark results I get from the Mobility Radeon M6 (Radeon 7000 core as bhtooefr says) seem comparable to a bottom-of-the-range GeForce 2, so I think there are potentially quite a few older games that could work OK. HL/CS is all I've tried so far. The small amount of video memory could also be a limiting factor with some other games I guess.

Minimum spec of the original HL is actually a Pentium 133 w/ 32mb RAM and I've actually managed to get it to play somewhat on an old 760ED that had a P133 and 48mb RAM and an SVGA TFT. The slowest I've been able to get Half-Life decently playable on though was my 380ED back when it only had 32mb RAM and all the game settings on minimum.

I remember back in the day when that game first came out (1998) my desktop system was a Pentium 166 (non-MMX) w/ 128mb RAM and a 6mb Voodoo Rush Dual Chipset PCI card and Half-Life played perfectly on that computer. I used to play multiplayer with bufddies and family members all the time on that old machine.
