I just bought a G41 with these specs:

Product: ThinkPad G41 2886-79U

Original description: P4-M 548, 1GB RAM, 80GB 5400rpm HDD, 15 SXGA+(1400x1050) TFT LCD, 128MB nVIDIA GeForce FX Go5200, CD-RW/DVD-R Multi-Burner, IBM 802.11b/g wireless(MPCI), Modem(CDC), 1Gb Ethernet(LOM), 12 cell Li-Ion battery, WinXP Pro

The laptop alone (excluding the AC adapter) weighs 8.43 pounds!!!! Here are some photos comparing it with some of the other laptops I currently have:

wow what a difference on the screens. What does TN stand for in the bad screen?

TN stands for twisted nematic http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TFT_LCD

It's not that TN displays are bad per se; they are the most common LCDs found in notebooks. It's just that the IPSs are so wonderful in comparison

That T42 looks like an ultraportable compared to the G41.

I have a couple of these adapter that came with the Advanced Port Replicator and yes they are Ginormous! I feel almost feel ♦like they could power my desktop!

I just added three photos to my first post in this thread comparing this G41 with my newly acquired S30, i.e. the biggest versus the smallest! Enjoy!

Wow and I thought the A31p I used to own was big. That G is a beast! I'm curious about the battery life of that thing, just enough to lug it from desk to desk?

Love the pix. The G41 is a desktop wearing a ThinkPad costume. Imagine wipping that guy out at a meeting. The fan is so huge it would probably suck the window curtains in at boot up. I bet that AC adapter weighs as much as an X40. NICE! (I've got to get one!)

I bought it locally two months ago, intending to play with it for a few days just to see what the heaviest Thinkpad felt like, and then selling it. While the screen resolution of 1400x1050 is not enough for displaying many windows at once, it's good enough for casual internet browsing, which is the main purpose of this G41 (it has an excellent Atheros card). And the relatively low pixel density of 116.7 DPI makes things look comfortably big. It's not a Flexview screen, however, so the viewing angle is not so wide, as illustrated in some of the photos above. But it's better than some other TN screens I've seen.

IMO, the G40 and G41 are ideal for people who are looking for an inexpensive laptop that's very solid and powerful, and has a large screen with a reasonably high resolution and quality (although many models only have XGA). I much prefer it over the R50p even though the R50p has Flexview. The R50p squeaks all over the place and flexes rather easily, and I think it's typically $50 - $100 more expensive than the G41. The main deal breaker for many people is that the G41 weighs about 8.4 lb, but in my view, any laptop over 5 lb shouldn't be moved around much anyway and should serve as a desktop replacement, so whether it's 5.01 or 15 lb makes no difference to me.

Well, judging from the results it looks like that PCMark 2002 is unable to detect or utilise dual core processors properly i.e. it only runs the test using one core.

P4 3,33GHZ is ,however, without a doubt a very fast processor when running applications that are optimized for single core and there aren't too many heavy background processes running.
