FrankenPad upgrade performed:
Pentium III 1ghz --> 1.2ghz 20% upgrade performance is actually noticeable
20GB HDD --> 60GB
1x256mb SDRAM --> 2x512mb (1GB)
CD-RW drive left
DVD-ROM drive right
Brand new battery with 2 hours of battery life
Bluetooth + WIFI upgrade performed
Upgrade likely to be performed:
14.1" XGA (Bad condition, Yellowed with horizontal lines going through at top and bottom part of the LCD) --> 15" SXGA+ or UXGA
Windows 7 boots up in 1 minute (Still much better than a netbook)
ATI Radeon 9000 driver used to be very stable (Aero is not possible)
Sleep and hibernation works fine
Everything works (I have a special version of hotkey display to work in Windows Vista/7 for non-Lenovo ThinkPads because Lenovo changed the scale for sound and brightness)
around 400mb/1GB taken by Windows
Firefox is the only choice for the newest (Chrome needs SSE2 and IE is slow)
Works with almost every non-YouTube website with adblock as long as you have patience
Excellent keyboard and Speakers (No other non-A series ThinkPad except for 770 and 600 can compare to this)
no heat issues as long as you enable fan7/64 manually when doing intense stuff to prevent GPU failure (I set it to ventilate at 60 degrees Celsius)
games like Quake 3, PVZ and Half Life 2 works fine
Dell Lat CP MMX-233 64mb 40gb W2k

Nice Model M. I just pulled mine out after about a year or so of typing on a Cherry brown switch keyboard. New computer, so I needed a PS2 -> USB converter, and I also spent the $10 or so to replace a few missing keycaps. Now the Cherry keyboard is up for sale on eBay. These things seem to last forever.

Another update: A30 and T43's motherboards are all replaced with their p version. So now they are A30p and T43p. I still have some of those T43p boards left because it is VERY cheap for me to buy in bulk (I bought three at CNY 250 each (USD$45)) while it is nowhere to be found in eBay...

Those IPS UXGA panels are second-hand stuff I salvaged from the forum members for cheap (A30p's UXGA from wujstefan's free A31p but gave him $20 anyways to remain my "bidding" spot, T43p's UXGA from ajkula66's sales for $25). All have dusts in there. A30p's also have yellowish and pinkish problems.

I have 3 machines running FreeBSD (I'm on my new T61 now) so I'm going to keep Windows 10 Pro on my new W520 for playing some of my old games. Here's a shot of it running The Elder Scrolls IV - Oblivion with Altec Lansing external speakers, Logitech illuminated mechanical keyboard and Razer DeathAdder mouse. I have a saved game with a Level 38 Nord Warrior so I was able to pick up where I left off last time I played:

Oh I have the EXACT SAME Logitech keyboard too! Just I don't even know why anyone would like it because it looks quite ugly to my eyes! Now its sole purpose is just as something that just lights up so that I can tell if my desktop is powered on or not (I attached a little piece of eraser on the power button of my OptiPlex GX520 so that I can power it on just by my toe xD which also blocks the power indicator LED unfortunately)...

LOL to each their own. I really like the slim profile and the stroke of the backlit keys. I have a stand I set my laptop on that I can pull close to me while I sit in the recliner and hold the keyboard on my lap. It's not bulky and I can see what the keys are in a darkened room.

In fact, I saw a photo here the other day of someone using what I remember to be an Apple keyboard done in a light color that reminded me of it. At the time I thought they must have taken the design from it.

PC DOS anyone?Image
Thinkpad4by3's Law of the Universe.

The efficiency of two screens equally sized with equal numbers if pixels are equal. The time spent by a 4:3 user complaining about 16:9 is proportional to the inefficiency working with a 16:9 display, therefore the amount of useful work extracted is equal.

Here's a shot of my W520 and its new OEM installation of Windows 7 Pro, replete with what appears to be all the Levono tools and recovery partition. I bought a HDD with a Lenovo image and put Windows 10 on the shelf:

Image

And here's my X61 with a new Debian jessie build. I gave up on Vista, and already having 3 other FreeBSD boxen decided to go with Linux for a change:

Image

I've still got a blank 100GB HDD@7200RPM for it and may go with OpenBSD before it's over. This is the first dedicated Linux box I've had in 10 years or so. :)

This is my new daily driver. X250 768p next to a 24" Dell 1440p monitor. They are both around 123ppi which is consistent without scaling. My first Thinkpad daily driver in 3 years.

It mainly sits as a desktop, but when I need to travel, I just grab it and go. That wallpaper on the right has a lot of nostalgia for me.

OpenBSD current, cwm.

General info:

Not all browsers display pictures/links properly, not known if caused by the browser or the Forum software.
I use the Pale Moon (27.0.3) browser, and instead of a picture (or even a link) in the above it shows me
Image
instead of this link:
https://photos.google.com/photo/AF1QipO ... g1o5tvC1Pv
When I click on the link, it says:
Google wrote: 404. That’s an error.
The requested URL was not found on this server. That’s all we know.
It's a bad idea anyway to post pictures that are stored on Google, since they want you to sign in with a Google account.

When I copy that link into the Internet Explorer browser, then IE/Google also want you to sign in with a Google account.
They do NOT show you the picture, unless you also use their account, WTF ($*@!...)

Instead I recommend to go have a look at the likes of Imgur and post a picture (or link) from there.

Here is a general shot from my Thinkpad T60 Type 2623. I know its typical Win XP shot but I mainly use this PC for legacy applications like visual basic 6.0 and Starry Night for stargazing (not a big fan of the modern software).

One particular note about this machine is that I swapped out the US keyboard for a UK keyboard (absolutely loving it!).
