By coincidence Thinkpad W700 and HP 8730w made it to my desk at the same time. Unfortunately again I had nothing better than my 6120 Classic to snap pictures:
W700 closed
W700 Booting
PSU is huge
LCD view angle is good, on screen calibration software
OMG two Thinklights
Side by side with HP EliteBook 8730w, both off mains power, the W700 is brighter. This 8730w only has 1680x1050 resolution.
W700 and 8730w stacked, the Thinkpad is bigger, thicker, heavier
On top of each other, aligned in top left corner
My thoughts:
The W700 is just lovable, tank, badass. It's not an on the go notebook but a workstation. It's firmly built, LCD doesn't wobble, same as other thinkpads (8730w has more wobble but also firm). The palmrests do drop on pressure (the rollcage is underneath), I don't like that. 8730w is also well built, thoguh it's less rigid than W700, especially the screen.
Keyboard is firm, doesn't depress on pressure, again a true thinkpad. The 8730s's keyboard is just average, the owner of this particular one complained that ESC key gets stuck.
I love the built in calibrator, close it, wait for sound and it's done, also love the bulit-in tablet.
