I've never posted pics on this forum, but here we go! Hopefully I can fit more than five or six pics in a single post! Otherwise, this will get stretchy!

I'll start with my T40.





T42 (The cleanest Thinkpad I've ever owned... Perfect condition all the way around.)

Interesting, as you own three different T4x models, of the same physical dimensions, I have a question: do you notice any differences in the exterior of these machines?

I was under the impression that all 14" T4x models are physically the same and only the hardware inside differs, but lately I've heard some info that this may not be the case.

I like the pics, too, but I am wondering ... Why do ThinkPad displays tilt back so far that the display is flat on the table like in some of the pics? The only application I can imagine that might be useful for is perhaps for a computer located under a glass counter in a retail establishment. Is there any particular reason for this feature?

I think that there are a few reasons that it can go all the way back:
1) if the screen is knocked back, it will not crack when the bottom is stopped, reducing the risk of damage. My toshiba has a 12? cell battery that blocks the screen, and if you push it back too far with the battery in, it starts to put the pressure ripples on the screen where there is stress between me pushing on the top of the display and the battery stopping it at the bottom.
2) if the computer is to be used on a table when the user is standing up (presentation...), it gives a wider range of options.
3) it would be difficult to install a stopper that would be sturdy eneough for continued use without breaking eventually.
4) Allows for people to use a laptop stand that elevates the screen to a better height - normally require the notebook to be opened to a large angle.

That is all that I can think of for now.

The question I see here is "why not?" I don't think this feature creates any potential problems, and it would require more work to actually provide some mechanism to disable it.

I can say that they are all IDENTICAL. I noticed no difference at all.

I prefer the size and weight of the 14.1's so much more over the 15's. I would like to own a 15", but I think these are so much sexier.

I really don't know if there's a reason for the screen to tilt all the way back, but it's a beautiful design. The screen hinges are sturdy enough to handle it, and take all kinds of abuse, and still hold up.

I've worked at Best Buy for around 7 1/2 to 8 years, and I've never seen anything as beautiful in design as these T4X's. I know almost all HP's and Gateways won't even let the screen go back half as far as these. Kind of pathetic, plus, they have constant issues anyway.

I'm loving this T43p, except the fan runs much more, and it creates much more heat than my T42. But oh well. It's my favorite by far. Just need to get a new 9-cell battery for it ASAP.

I've taken around 1,000 pictures of them over the past few years, just don't have the time to post but a few of them. Thanks!

I agree with the sentiment "why not"? I'm just trying to think of ways I could apply this feature. I do know that sometimes when I'm lying on my bed holding the Thinkpad I'll stand the edge of the keyboard on my torso and, in that case, it's necesary to tilt the screen significantly more than 90 degrees to be able to see it, but okay ... too much information . (You probably don't need that image in your head! ) In any case, I doubt my particular way of using it has been touted by Lenovo as a feature.

My R61 tilts back, too, so I assumed all Thinkpads did so, but my Lenovo 3000N100 does not tilt back much more than 90 degrees. There's some kind of stopper.

I don't see that as a disadvantage. And a 9-cell battery is a must. (I have two of them for my R61.)

I am not familiar with Gateway laptops but let me assure you that the HPs you've seen at Best Buy are just a small subset of HP's offerings, namely low-end models of their "consumer" lines. HP's "business" laptops have screens that can be pushed as far back as the Thinkpads'.

Anyway, those are beautiful photos that you posted. I agree that the 14.1" T-series are among the nicest-looking laptops. But if you ever buy a desktop-replacement unit (i.e. one that you never carry around), I recommend you to look into the 15.0" T-Series, which use Flexview/IPS displays that are far nicer than the 14.1" displays.

That will be my next purchase. I haven't used one before. But I've heard most of the Flexview screens have defects or bad backlighting issues. I still want one regardless.

I've had HP Compaq Business notebooks in the store, and I continue to sell them along with their desktop line of business grade PC's to my business customers. I love them to death, but I still sell Lenovo's off the chain.

Most of our installers and outside sales consultants, AND corporate uses HP Compaq Business. Their notebooks are definately my second favorite business line. The trackpoint system in their notebooks doesn't compare to IBM/Lenovo's though, that's for sure. Just like the old Dell Inspiron's!

gorgeous pics! gorgeous machines of course! i have T41 and looking at thos machines stidd don't know why I'm looking for another IBM t60. My t41 doesn't look as beautiful as those shown above, but stiil it works fine. Despite of the fact that it has only one core, probably I'll be using it for a long time.

Very nice pictures of some very nice machines, I also love the 14.1" format it is so much more compact. But I have to say the Flexview monitor on my old T43 15.1" was to die for.

Your Thinkpads are so clean its unreal ! ....
