If you go back to Windows 2000 you can still use the Windows 3.1 program manager (start/run progman.exe), you can even make it the shell in place of Windows Explorer

The Windows 3.1 file manager (winfile.exe) was in NT 4.0 but dropped in Win2000 I think - shame!

no..it's windows xp that got customized with some stuff from neowin.net
the "skin" that i'm using is really a theme called royal four(with the black graphite(compact) appearance, that i got from benz off this thread. you can find royal four here:
http://www.neowin.net/forum/index.php?s ... =royalfour
to install it follow these directions from benz:
Sure, since several people have been asking, here's a little tutorial for installing the Royal Four theme onto your Thinkpad:
1.) Download and install the UXTheme multi-patcher to safely mod your uxtheme.dll file, so that you can install custom themes such as this one.
2.) Download the Royal Four visual style and unzip the files onto your desktop.
3.) Copy the folder "Royal Four" to the directory "C:\WINDOWS\Resources\Themes" or whatever your main windows directory is.
i used the longhorn transformation pack from windows x off neowin.net...it changed my icons, boot screen, and made my windows transparent(as far as i can tell). that can be found here:
