Thought I'd introduce myself as a new arrival here (after a slight glitch over my e-mail address 
)
Found this forum when my T42 started showing signs of an ailing display & thanks to the expertise here, quickly confirmed the problem as a dying backlight, which subsequently gave up the ghost the day I signed up here.
