IBM Thinkpad 310ED - Back in the day...

I'm new on this forum, and I didn't quite know where to start, so I decided to show what I have that's Thinkpad. :D

First off is really, my only working Thinkpad at the moment:

This is an IBM Thinkpad 310ED, made in 1997, which has 64 MB RAM, Windows 98 SE, and an Intel Pentium I running at 166 MHz with MMX instructions. It's got a Chips and Technologies 65550 with about 1 MB of video memory, so I would say it's not so great on gaming.
Although it is pretty useful, for it's capable of 16-bit color and has DirectX 8.1 installed(not that it matters). I was able to get Office 2000 and a bunch of neat games, so I do hop on it occasionally. It came with Windows 95, bad RAM, bad graphics drivers and a broken CD-ROM, but now everything works except the battery.

This is the working 310ED pictured next to the other Thinkpad I bought along with the 310ED to hopefully restore, but it turned out a failure. The other one is a 760ED. It had no HD, no Battery, and nothing in the UltraBay. I filled it in with some of my extra parts and tried installing Windows 95 on it, only for the Power Supply to short out. I now have tons of extra 760ED parts, but I donated the case to my school as a photo prop and an artifact.

My 3 computers. My family doesn't let me have a desktop, so I have to stick with laptops. The shiny one in the middle is my current laptop, a Toshiba, because I don't quite have enough money for a Lenovo yet, but I needed a laptop for work. I plan to hopefully in the future get a T42, and a modern Lenovo Thinkpad. Maybe an X-series just for fun.

So yeah, I thought I'd just introduce what I have.

I have a 310ed also, is yours a dualscan LCD or TFT model?
Hopefully the one you have has a working CMOS battery, because they are a pain to get to if you need to replace it.

It's a Dual-Scan LCD. There seems to be an issue where colored lines stretch the bottom half of the screen vertically. It isn't a huge problem though.

Ummmm... lol

The CMOS battery has said to have died 2 years before I got the 310ED. I was thinking of replacing it, but like you said, it's a hassle. I'll still consider it though.

I'm also thinking of getting another battery, the model the 310 uses seems to be quite common on ebay.

I wouldn't call the 310ed battery common, but they are out there. Not sure I would pay more then $20 for a battery for that unit since I use my tft models more.

I'll look for a battery, both the laptop battery and the CMOS. Until then, I need to figure out what I'm going to do 760-wise.

Other than that I'm satisfied with the 310ED. It runs, has few problems, although I still need to see if the CardBus slots work... a Wi-Fi adapter I had didn't light up. I don't know if either the adapter or the slots were the problem; I tried both. I have no other machine at the moment with CardBus to test with.
