The "Princess Edition" X30 "Pic Warning"

I few of you guys have been asking about the "Princess Edition", Lavender X30 that's in my sig. It's taken me some time to get it completed and back together mostly due to my own sloth, not that it's that difficult. Enjoy or point and laugh at your discretion, but everyone whose ever had a 3/4 year-old little girl will absolutely understand! So here it is:

The daughter loves it. Brother has his hands full trying to coach her! :D

Brother is happy because now little sis isn't bugging him on his T42! I used regular Krylon on the lid and Krylon for plastics for the other parts then clear gloss on top.

"Cute" isn't necessarily a good thing for a Dad, but I think I have a few years before my students start asking about my daughter! The boy is on his own.

I am afraid though that since the X30 is her first computer, I may be setting myself up for ever increasing expectations in the future! Daughter really just grinned real big and took it in stride, but it's really friends who have seen it that are shocked. Fortunately, it's not very difficult, just a pain in the neck.

Keep the paint cans out. She'll be expecting a new color for every laptop she gets between now and 18 years old :).

Did you do this without dismantling it?
It looks like you left it together and masked areas with newspaper and tape.

Glad to see them go to such good use, especially when inspiring generational TP users!

Really? Not to be sarcastic, but do you really think it looks like it wasn't dismantled? Go back and look at the 1st 3 pictures where the pieces are taped off and laying on the newspaper and see what you think.

The majority of the time and effort had to do with taping off (after dismantling), once the paint went on there and I was able to pull the tape off, the reassembly was very quick and easy. It would have been a bigger pain if I had decided to paint the bottom as well and had to do a full disassembly.

Very nice work. I wonder how it would look in gloss black. My X24 may need a refinishing; it's taken a beating over the last few years.

Now that I've done it once, I might strongly consider doing one in that gloss "Piano Black" look that the guy on that Korean website did. I can't seem to find it any more, but it was amazing even if I couldn't read it. It was probably instrumental in getting me to do the lavender for my daughter's machine. Maybe at some point later this year when I get a little time on my hands; after the first few months of school and before the "prep-for-testing" period in the Spring.

For my taste, I'm thinking either something very large A3x (or larger) or very small X Series, if not something small and difficult to find like an 240Z. But in the end, it'll probably be something small and inexpensive these days like an X40/41.
