Hi everybody!

Out of boredom on this dull Sunday I decided to disassemble a broken 40GB 1.8 Hitachi drive I pulled out from my latest X40 purchased weeks ago. Won't be anything extremely exciting for the experience users here, but I thought I could share some pictures for curious forum members...

After removing all screws from the base and all the screws from the top (-3)

First parts taken out

IDE pins were not in good shape...

Three more screws out, The one on the lower right part was very well hidden :?

Innards exposed

Close up of the platters. You can almost spot my camera model from these pictures!

Final result, I decided to keep the frame with the platters like this...

... and is now joining other collectibles in my desktop PC

Enjoy!

Cool post, great pictures. It's always cool to look inside of stuff. I know a lot of people find those drives annoying. I have a mixed feeling about them lol

PS: You have the same monitor as me.
