THINKPAD TAXONOMY

#1 Post by Khipata » Wed Nov 05, 2014 4:04 pm

I have a suggestion for Bill Morrow and other moderators:

Would not it be phenomenal if you guys could come up with a DEDICATED webpage on thinkpads.com containing information about every and ANY known and obscure thinkpad model and their varriations, complete with classification and photos (and possibly short videos too)?

I know there are vast resources on think wiki and other places, but in my opinion, thinkpads.com is a LIVE HUB, kind of a temple for thinkpad lovers and in general, vintage laptop and tablet collectors.

We, The People, forum members could assist with actual pictures of machines, pictures of peripherals and manuals and other materials, because as I can see, not Lenovo, not anyone else cares much about the legacy which is a black jewel called THINKPAD...

Please, share your thoughts and suggestions.

Thanks everyone who will read this post regardless of will they agree with me or not :)

P.S. If there are monetary concerns, we are 52651 members here and most of us could contribute $5 or more to this cause, hope this does not break anybody's bank :) $263255 should be enough... I for one am ready to contribute.

This is kinda off-topic, but I've got an interesting idea.

What about a site dedicated to the history of ThinkPads? Something that archives and consolidates all of the various bits of information buried deep within the bowels of the internet, and catalogs them into a detailed history of the ThinkPad brand, and a background to each specific model that was ever made.

In other words, I'm looking for an encyclopedia of ThinkPads. (Yes, I know about the ThinkWiki site, but I feel that it's lacking in some aspects.)

Sure, that would be a massive undertaking, but I feel that everyone in the ThinkPad community would benefit immensely if such a site existed.

As part of collecting ThinkPads, I've blogged a few times about them but I haven't done an in depth review of the machines.
I've done an incomplete and poorly executed spreadsheet of a few ThinkPads as a sort of guide as to what is available CPU/GPU/screen wise on the machines.
If I had kept a better edge at my webmaker hobby, I'd probably come up with a sure very easily.

I do want to make a more current version of this webpage as well.

I definitely agree.

ThinkWiki is great, but it would be much better if there were more pictures/resources there.
I haven't really time to contribute at the moment, but it's a great idea.

^ That site looks promising, too bad it is not in my native language and am unable to decipher quite a bit of it.

Cool idea though OP!

translate.google.com works pretty well to get a basic understanding of it!

while that japanese site is great i think its kind of overkill

i love thinkpads, easily my favorite and the years from the t20 to the t420 are what i'm interested in but thinkpads are probably the most well documented and supports laptops ever

i can google any model i'm interested in buying and get reviews service manuals and hi res shots

so the above japanese site is perhaps laying more excruiciating details ontop

in contrast i have often got other laptops and you can hardly find anything
