Why after each crash the server has when the site reloads in my browser it is labeled as (1)forum.thinkpads, (2)forum.thinkpads. Each time this number in front of the address increased.

It is currently displayed as the second example.

Maybe you need to empty the browser's cache?

No, not at all. Chrome empties every time it's closed. I even tried renaming the site in my bookmarks but it still displays as above.

Like I said, it used to be one(1) until the last crash, then it started loading as (2), the second example.

I've never had a PM from anyone here.

I think you're on to something. I found two notifications I was unaware of and that has reduced that parenthesized number to one (1), so it has to be something with notifications but I certainly can't find it.

I have no subscriptions, no PM, no Admin messages, or anything else I can find.

I had thought it was an HTML error from different versions of the same page being loaded. I guess not, but it still leaves that (1) unexplained.

If you still have (1)forum... then you still have one UNread PM in your Inbox.

I had a similar query not that long ago. In my case it was a Bookmark that I had saved in the forum User Control Panel. Not sure how it works exactly but it seemed to me that if someone replies to one of the bookmarked threads then I will get a notification that shows up on a Firefox tab as: (1) forum.thinkpads.com.- [page I am viewing]. It will then stay that way until I go back into User Control Panel and click on the Bookmark that has the new reply.

emeraldgirl08 is right. Go to the home page, click "Mark Forums Read". Problem solved.

Marked forum read does work so I guess but I am not sure which one I read, looks like I'll have to find out one by one. :P

That fixed it. I didn't sign up for those notifications so I guess I will have to watch for that from now on.

whenever someone quote you in the forum, you get a notification, without you subscribing to anything.
just visiting the thread where you were quoted, clears the notification.

May I ask where you got that wisdom from?
I have possibly been quoted over 1000 times, and never got any messages...

If i get quoted, a notification appears.

In that case, go to: User Control Panel/Board preferences/Edit notification options
Tick/Untick the Notifications you want or not want, and click on Submit.

my notification count has increased +2 because i have just been quoted twice above.
(one of them were a double quote)

IIRC, the notification thing was the result of an update to the forum software this year.

Now that I've figured out how to clear these notifications, why do I have to keep doing it every time I log in here. I keep checking the boxes that say Mark all Read. They never disappear and they keep resetting themselves.

There is no option that I've found to turn off notifications.

Thank you. That should put an end to this thread.
