I looked at the phpBB support forum. There are add-on RSS mods that have been created by some users, but from what I read, there are assorted problems with them and they do put an additional load on the server (remember, additional load probably = more $$$, and Bill pays for all this out of his pocket).

What's a good aggregator, anyway? I've just been using Bloglines and haven't really looked around for anything else for a while.

for RSS, i have google.com/ig as my home page, Sage (firefox extension) for feeds that won't fit on the home page, and Blam to archive it all.

I think this deserves a bump -- the rss plugins have gotten better and don't forget that if the user does it right, agragating doesn't have to increase the bandwidth (how many times does someone do a full set of page loads just to see if anything's new?)

I don't do too many page updates, it comes naturally for me when I want to look at the new posts on a page. There is also a function that will alert you to new posts on threads or subjects of interest although it isn't as fast as an RSS feed, there is alot of resources an RSS feed could waste if it wasn't being actively updated by the server. Unless there is alot of activity, for me, the RSS feed amounts to compulsively hitting the "Reload" button on the browser. :)

That said, it wouldn't be a bad idea if it could be done with a simple plugin and without much load on the server(s).

I agree - this would be nice to have.

I would love to have it myself. Since this subject was first brought up 2 (?) years ago, I've started using Google's Reader extensively to cover far more ground that I did before simply going from site-to-site.
