i'm sure someone has posted this already but without a "titles only" search it is hard to find it :) kidding of course, but it would be very nice to update/upgrade the search function on this forum

It would indeed be very nice -- it would reduce the number of hits from a search (and probably also reduce the load on the server).

I'm with you guys. There have been times when I would have found this feature useful. :)

Looking over the phpBB.com site, I don't see any option to restrict searches to just "title" or "subject" line in their latest version of the software:

http://www.phpbb.com/support/guide/#section4_5

Maybe this should be something you can prod them with?

Switch to vBulletin and you don't have that issue. Unfortunately, vBulletin isn't free.

Are you volunteering to pay for it?

Hah! vBulletin licenses are not cheap. $160 for permanent ownership - I'm sure with all the people who drive Volvo's on this board that between all of us we could come up with that.

And Audi drivers?

Manarius, rkawakami and me, that's three. How many people do we need to pitch in for vBulletin?

However many people it takes to come up with $160. Just FYI, I am a poor college student who can probably only contribute...$25..maybe.

Does an 89 Civic count? :P
[that is one of my vehicles]

I could part with 5 from my fleet of Lincolns if it is decided it should be a go. Personally I do not know enough about this software and forums in general to know if this would be a good move or not. The plusses and minuses would have to be investigated.

I could pitch in also, it would be nice to have a more streamlined search function as it seems to be a hot topic.

If gomjabber can sell those 5 lincolns we'd big rollin like big dogs. 8)

Alas, my Lincolns are not worth so much, and the fleet not that large. :(

That doesn't factor in Bill's time, the server guy's time, the admin and mod team's time, etc for a conversion.

Maybe Bill could speak up about whether he wants to consider this change, assuming that we come up with the funding? :)

The server guy shouldn't have an issue....I'm pretty sure vBulletin comes with code for conversion from phpBB. However, you are right about the time it takes for the admin/mod team and Bill's time. I think it's a worthwhile conversion though; vBulletin is a very popular and very strong bulletin board system with a lot of cool features that phpBB doesn't have or that can be added into it.

That's partly why I ask these type of questions every time someone comes up with a "you oughta" here. Not that some of the suggestions aren't good and possibly could/should be implemented, but to remind everyone that we're all volunteers here and that Bill pays for the server space and bandwidth out of his own pocket. (And before anyone says something about him selling TPs, he does precious little of that these days.)

Right. Definitely not a "you oughta" -- more like "it would be nice if ... and we are willing to pitch in."

Yeah. By no means are we ordering - I'm just providing suggestions since I have a good bit of forum experience (in excess of 11000 posts over all my board experience).
