Oops indeed! That's what I get for working too hard on getting my feathers! ;)

P.S. Tan Mann, nice to see you popping in again! :)

After getting my second feather, I started working pretty hard thinking that I would get a third one after exceeding 1K posts, but that didn't happen!

Once you hit 500, the message counting/# feathers automatic relationship stops. Whether or not you get more after that depends entirely on what you do to contribute since 1) it has to stand out and 2) it's a manual effort for Bill or one of the admins to make the change to **SENIOR** Member. There are also other special ranks with no feathers at all.

The **SENIOR** rank is definitely (and understandably) used infrequently -- Leon is the only member I have seen with that designation.

There are others (Teresa, Bruce, Roland, Ian! and the two Franks come to mind - where is Ian these days???). Most of the holders are from the old forum.

That explains it -- the old forum predates me (or I postdate it?). :)

all changed..

1000 = ThinkPadder
2000 = Senior ThinkPadder
(see above)

and as for leon (Leon Stevens of Boston), he took his leave in dec. 2005 without saying goodbye..
very bad form..

also, members who have attained a **senior** designation are as likely to become a mod..

as for ranks, since there are so many students hanging around, i thought this was a decent idea..

anyone want to make a better suggestion, please PM me.. :)

sorry for not staying on top of this issue..
i make a crummy admin i guess..

Wow, did I start this topic? Nice to see how far we are from the topic. I really don't mind, but it's interesting :D

Nah, you're just busy! I think that scheme works fine.

To Mr Morrow, all admins and moderators,

Just a suggestion from me. Why not add another special rank to allow other users to distinguish some valued contributors in this forum?

Proposal: Add another rank which does not have got to do with post count. (Helpful Member). Only members with at least 500 posts and above, with clean record, registered for at least 5 months in this forum can be voted by other members to be crowned as helpful member.

Advantages of having this rank:

1~ Users will know that whatever comments, suggestions, opinions or advises coming from this particular member can be trusted and they can have a peace of their mind when dealing with emergency thinkpad problem.

2~ Users will show more respect to this particular member.

3~ Other members with at least 100 posts and registered in this forum for at least 3 months can have the priviledge to vote for someone to be crowned as helpful member. (everybody can get together to vote and hence develop some bonds)...

4~ Admins and mods can select new moderators from this pool of candidates with this special rank.

5~ So as to encourage other members and that particular member himself to work harder to reap the reward.

*Wait till i can think of some more to add in, i will add in again* ;-)

What do you think about this proposal, Mr Morrow?

BTW: Where is Christopher Wolf ? He has disappeared from this forum since 19 Jan 2007. * I missed his posts!*

1 contributor in this forum whom i have been following and watching very closely for quite sometime has already fitted into the helpful member category. He is benottomex. :-)

To name a few helpful members: benottomex, gator, pianowizard, Ken Fox

:D

I sort of like the fact that you have to earn your avatar here. I do wish there were other ranks and possible some avatar image for freshmen and sophomore members. Oh well, soon I will have a feather!

Actually, there is already a member that has "Peachy's" picture as an avatar.....I believe it was random for having the 10,000 post.

Now here is *new* definition of "crummy". This is an astonishingly excellent board, and the level of civility and knowledge is very high. Without Bill, we wouldn't have this very nice board. Just pragmatic fact, not pandering. ... JD Hurst

reality is that without the mods and admins this would be a crappy forum..
and the users..
this is a community effort..
it has been since the commpuserfe days, the webboard days and since the phpBB days..
stress is on the community part..

i just happen to have been there at the right moment..
