Locked Duplicate Thread

I had a thread locked today.

The moderator did not identify him- or her-self, so I cannot contact that person.

There was no link to the thread that was duplicated so I could see if there was any relevant information in it.

What's the real problem that needs fixing?

How does locking in this manner help?

Wouldn't it help more for a moderator to reply and then lock, so we can both follow the link and contact the moderator?

Thanks,
Chris

I was the moderator who locked that thread. I don't sign those kinds of things since it's irrelevant which mod handled it. If an issue is egregious enough, I post as an admin.

The purpose of locking duplicate threads is to keep from splintering discussions. In this case, it takes only a cursory search on your part to bring up the existing thread since it's 1) current and 2) ongoing.
