Right now the only way to mark a certain thread is to say "Watch" it.

Now, for some reason I cannot lookup a list of the THREADS I am watching to or subscribed to from "MY" Control Panel.

I have no way to recall all the threads I had MARKED.

There is no way to add Bookmarks / Favorites. Actually I was surprised that ALL forums I frequent do and the BEST ONE... Thinkpad Forums is missing it.

Well there is another GREAT one... FlyerTalk.com.

I know it might be a bit of a hassle but maybe the Thinkpad forum software needs a little bit of an upgrade or update atleast.

A lot functionality "COMMON" on most community forums is missing.

PS: If you'd like some hands to do some of that work please feel free to let me know. I am sure myself and other Tech savvy folks would like to help.

what you say is true..
phpBB ver. 2.whatever is very old..
i have this version tweaked dto do certain things like not allow non-members to see email address or look at a member list..
it is also (painstakenly) modified to keep spambots and the like, OUT..
(i deal with up to a dozen spambots daily!)

i would love to improve the search function, add RSS feeds, have several member levels and more..

trouble is my abilities with php are severly limited..
(i DID do my own business applications nearly 30 years ago in a nice simple environment on an alphamicro business computer)
prior experience means nothing with web based computing..

i had thought to actually BUY a new forum application but funds for such a thing have kind of dried up for now..

you offer technical help.. :)
what kind and what would you suggest.. ?

thank you for your interest in improving this environment..

I am not sure what all special PLUGs / PATCHES you added. I am guessing those small Security Holes have been filled by the SEVERAL Boards out there.

I frequent a lot of forums every now and then. I had done a survey 2 years back for another forum that wanted to set up.

If you're keen on it, I can do the research and help you come up with a short list / final.

After that.. I could help with any DB etc Server Migration if any.

PS: I think a lot of the forum s/w is / are free or negligible. Lets pick / finalize some and then think about $$$.

Bill - I am not sure if you still want me to or NOT to post on this thread. Do let me know :)

I found that vBulletin is currently 180$ or so. Just FYI - There are others near the top list that might be Free / Open Source.

Good Sample forums. Others please feel free to post links to Forums whose setup / software install / usability is something you like. (As long as Bill does not mind)

PS: I'll come back with some more of my regular forums here after I sort through them.

PPS: Maybe we can converge here with our Research Info.. for a while before we get on an Online Call to finalize / shortlist.
