E-mail notifications

Hello,
I know that forum is "freshly baked" and that is still under construction...
What I want to ask if is there general issue with e-mail notifications or the problem is only with my account? I don't receive any mail that notify me of new posts within thread...
Is e-mail feature replaced by "black dot" sign?
Thanks

Several members have been reporting lack of emails. Please do the following:
- Click the "User Control Panel" link at the top of the page
- Click the "Profile" link under the "Options" heading at the left
- Click the "Edit account settings" link
Verify that your email is correct and that the other fields are blank. If they're not blank and you can't edit them, post a note here and we'll look into it.
edit: The "black dot" next to the thread icon on the index page only indicates that you have posted somewhere in that thread.

Hi Ray,
I did what you told me to do and: e-mail is correct but other fields are not blank,
confirm your e-mail address field and
new password field are not blank to be more specific. Edit does not help, but you already knew that
I knew what "black dot" means, but in combination with white/orange color change you get almost the same thing as e-mail notification, except you have to do a manual search in
view new posts window...
Thanks

FYI:
If the "Confirm email" field contains your username and the "New password" field contains black dots,
then these entries come from your password manager (such as used in Firefox) and can be ignored.
You can make changes, and these entries keep coming back, but they have no further influence.

I checked the entries in the user control panel and all seemed correct. I am still not getting email notifications.

I don't receive them also, but I'm sure that this issue will be solved when more important stuff is done...
After all it's theirs good will to make it work, so we must be patient...

I understand that Bill and the other folks know they have problems and will get things fixed as soon as they can. I'm certainly not bashing anyone. I just wanted to make them aware that there is a problem. Its not a big deal. When they get to it, they get to it.
I'm sure they have their hands full with more serious problems

Bill,
it seems that all regular users (not mod or admin) don't get any notifications.
Ray and I tried many different things last Thursday night, but did not find a solution.
Somehow the SMTP settings may not have been updated after the changeover.

i am getting notifications..
though it took several days for that to happen..
i am not getting logged on automatically..
though since i changed the "time out" to 26,000 seconds things have improved and i don't need to re-log in frequently..
are you referring to the SMTP settings within the forum or on the server..?
and, FWIW, i can't send, from here, an email FROM my bill at thinkpads email..

That bill @ tp. com is the email address as used for the PM notifications.
I honestly don't know if that is a forum setting, but I would almost assume so.
Perhaps ask assistance from the gurus at phpbb.com's forum?

Bill - I received the test email you sent me and I just replied to it. I checked at the bottom of this reply screen and "Notify me when a reply is pisted" is checked for this topic.
EDIT: I also checked my spam folder and there is nothing there. It is set to hold spam emails for 7 days, not delete it immediately.

OK, my e-mail notifications work again...
How? I have changed my e-mail account here...
Since my previous e-mail account is going to be canceled in month or two, no harm is done...
Now, solving log-in issue is only thing on my wish list...

That sounds like a dangerous thing to do right now.
If everybody does that, we might be up that certain creek without a paddle!

I am not sure if the issue has been resolved or not but my email notifications are not working yet either.
Also, for some weird reason, if I have multiple tabs open with different pages of the forum in Firefox 3.0.5, I seem to have to log in for every tab - instead of logging in just once and the rest of the tabs automatically using that login session cookie.

logging in at forum.thinkpads.com does not set cookies at the moment.
However, if you go to
http://imwebd.com/~thinkpad/forum and log in from there, a cookie will be set, and you will stay logged in, even with umpteen tabs open
As soon as the cookie setting is fixed, you'll have to log in again via forum.thinkpads.com

Add me to the list of those not getting pm notifications. Not a big issue but I figured I let you know.

Time to concentrate on this topic.
I still don't get any email notifications even after I changed my email address a few times!

Could you supply a link please?
I doubt if that will solve my TPF issue, though.
I run about 12 websites myself, and from my experience failing notifications are ALWAYS caused by wrong Admin-settings, either in the website's Control Panel(s) or in the ubiqitous formmail.pl or formmail.cgi or its equivalent.

I would understand that if none of us were getting them. I've been getting them all along, though, and it's not because they're going to my thinkpads.com address since that hasn't been set up yet.
I added a poll to try to track how many are coming through without having to keep plowing through the messages.

Does the forum (or the ISP) have a blacklist perhaps of 'unwanted' domains?
I noticed that TPF blacklists gmail (and perhaps also hotmail), it would not accept one of my gmail addresses (which I don't want to use for this really).
My domain name is my own domain, which I have used for about 2-3 years now.

Yes, it does, but if the one you refer to is the one you're using for e-mail, it's not in the list. They're all domains that we've gotten a lot of spam from.

Wow. After previously voting no, I suddenly
got like three days' worth of notifications all
at once this morning!

Bill Morrow allowed me to poke around in the test-forum, to find out how to enable PM notification emails and subscription answer emails.
I got both of them going there and have made suggestions to Bill, what to possibly check and do on TPF to get them going there as well.
I also re-created the missing email address
bill @ thinkpads.com, which is the sender for these PM notifications.
Maybe he has applied some of my suggestions already.
My own PM and topic reply notifications on TPF started working as of this morning.

I just got 2 more topic reply notification emails - one from this topic and the other from "banana won't dance?". Looks like they may have got it

Nice job

It appears that this issue is no longer affecting me for either topic reply or pm notifications.
Thanks.
