Stability issue with V3 format

#1 Post by rbena » Fri Jan 09, 2009 4:13 pm

My system (T42 / W2k / IE6) worked fine with the V2 format. With the newer V3, I'm having stability issues. The main index listing of forums will load and display OK, but going to specific forums is not as successful. Most often, the forum page will attempt to load and will partially display the topics list, and then 'refresh' and display the '404' error page.

This is happenning with most forum list pages and also individual discussion thread pages. Only the main index listing of forums loads OK, and the odd discussion thread. But the forum list pages for say the T4x and T6x, are reverting to the '404' page after unsuccessful attempts to load.

Any ideas on what could be causing these issues with V3, and not with V2 or the older format. My system is the same, and haven't made any changes.

I hate to blame IE6, but maybe that's the culprit. Can you try another browser? (I do not have any problems with Firefox 3).

Working fine here, both wirelessly and wired, using FF 3.05 and IE7.

Now if the new forum software would keep me logged in for more than 5 seconds, all would be right with the world! :)

Thanks for all your replies.

Am not using wireless - thanks.

I've just tried Firefox and Opera. Both load the forum lists and message threads as normal, without displaying the 'error webpage'.

However, there is a single oddity - When loading the T4x or T6x forum main list page, only the first 4 items in the list are displayed, and the remainder of the page, including list items and the menu below, does not appear - it simply is clipped at the bottom of the 4th item in the list. But clicking 'Next' and going to page 2 loads a full normal page, including the continuing list plus the menu at the bottom. This 'oddity' only happens with the T4x and T6x forum main list page. The main list page for Marketplace, T2x, T300x, all work fine.

Hopefully can find what is clipping the main list page of these two forums. It appears others are not seeing problems in IE6. Appreciate any other suggestions. Thanks.

Success!

The clue was the "stickies" not loading successfully, and hanging in the T4x and T6x list pages - causing the page issues.

So it was a webpage loading issue - and a little investigation discovered IE6 was not up-to-date with the latest Java version. I've updated this, and now all works well with the forum's V3! Really good to see IE6 can still perform well.

Again, thanks for all your replies.

To stabilize your old(er) software even more, you should UNinstall the crappy MS Java Virtual Machine, using this:
http://www.mvps.org/marksxp/Downloads/W ... nmsjvm.exe
and then INstall Sun Java, using this:
http://www.java.com/en/download/index.jsp

M$-Java has not been supported for quite a while now, and should really be BANNED
