banana won´t dance?
Re: banana won´t dance?
They both dance for me Phil. Using Opera 9.63 on XP SP3. Not sure which technology is in effect here, but I am using Java 6, Update 11. I don't think it's relevant, but I have Adobe Flash Player 10.0.12.36 and Shockwave Player 11.0.3r470 installed.

Re: banana won´t dance?
The look exactly the same to me, dancing and all (using IE7 v7.0.5730.13 on an XP platform from the office).pkiff wrote:Can anyone else confirm that these two URLs produce different behaviours? Or is that just MY quirk?

Re: banana won´t dance?
Phil, when I open the links for the bananas you provided, both actually dance for me. However, in this thread here, the non-dancing banana is from http://www.thinkpads.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_dancing%20banana.gifpkiff wrote:Is it possible that this is some kind of cache quirk related to virtual directories/redirects being used with the new forum url?
In Opera 9.63, I get different dancing behaviours depending on which url is used as the source -- though I am pretty sure that these two urls actually lead to the same file...
No dancing:

Dancing fine:

Yes, I've edited my post above. Reloading the page fixes the problem for me. So it indeed seems to be a caching problem, a weird one though.

Interesting, pressing the ESC key stop them from dancing in my case too...

At present, I am in W7B using Opera 10 Alpha. The ESC key has no effect. They keep dancing.

Yes, but only if you make them stop via Esc key...basketb wrote:Reloading the page fixes the problem for me.
But if it stops on its own only reload+shift key will make it go again...or browser restart...

The middle one doesn´t dance for me, the others two on the contrary dancebasketb wrote: Phil, when I open the links for the bananas you provided, both actually dance for me. Re: banana won´t dance?
All three dance for me. Hitting ESC makes them all stop dancing. Refreshing the browser (IE7) starts all 3 dancing again.
I can't believe dancing bananas has generated this many posts.

Re: banana won´t dance?
Doh! I just realized that the reason they were dancing in one but not in the other in my specific case is that I had intentionally disabled animated gifs in my browser for one of those domains, but not for the other (using Opera's right-click -> Edit Site Preferences technique described earlier) ...My bad. Sorry for further confusing an already bizarre and inexplicable issue. They all dance fine for me now that animation is enabled in both domains.pkiff wrote:In Opera 9.63, I get different dancing behaviours depending on which url is used as the source -- though I am pretty sure that these two urls actually lead to the same file...

Don't know what browser you are using but for me in FF3, just reloading (F5) the page does the trick, no matter how they were stopped. Shift+F5 doesn't do anything.beGi wrote:Yes, but only if you make them stop via Esc key...

How did you manage to asynchronize them?basketb wrote: dances:

Re: banana won´t dance?
They aren't really synchronized for me. It seems random. Right now the first and third are in sync whereas yesterday it was some other combination.
Re: banana won´t dance?
WOW! I got my first feather AND my "Marin Bananas" all dance (granted, sometimes in sync, sometimes not in sync). Its a great day

Yup, I was talking about asynchronizing them, it looks much cooler than if they were in syncbasketb wrote:They aren't really synchronized for me. It seems random. Right now the first and third are in sync whereas yesterday it was some other combination.

Re: banana won´t dance?
And still another strange behavior...
Using FF3, I am able to make all of the animated .GIF files stop by simply pressing the ESC key as pkiff mentioned way back upthread. I can also make them individually start running again by right-clicking on the stopped .GIF animation and clicking "View image". That loads the smiley by itself into a new browser page and then I can back up one page to see the entire thread again.
