banana won´t dance?

I have just discovered that banana  doesn´t want to dance anymore  Is it my ThinkPad (I browse and write in this forum only from my ThinkPad 8) ) or maybe my browser (Firefox 3.0.5) or this is one of the new changes in our forum?

Thanks

Marin

It's dancing here, using Opera 9.63.

Along with IE8, the banana still dances in both FF3 and Chrome.

Well, that´s definitely weird because I can see the animation of the crying smiley but I´m still not able to see banana dancing. Anyway, I hope I´ll find out what is causing this or at least I´ll get it somehow resolved.

Dancing in FF v3.0.5....

But the strange part is that I've noticed one or two times that it didn't dance... :?

It doesn't dance in preview window (when you check how will your post look like)...

The banana doesn't dance for me either in FF3. However, it did a few days ago in this thread: http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?f=22&t=71852

Well, talking about weird, banana danced before I posted, now it stopped...

It must be FF issue...

EDIT: FF restart resolves the issue

Thanks for your replies! At least I know now for sure that I´m not the only one experiencing this problem. I´m almost sure I saw it dancing yesterday or the day before, but as of today it looks stiff on all threads I might check.

EDIT: <-- The 666 posts must be killing him!

EDIT: I don´t have 666 posts anymore...

I'd love an option (EPILEPSY=NONE? INTRUSIVE=MINIMAL?) to inhibit any moving icons or images on the site!

Art (for whom the plantain is, unfortunately, quite jiggly on FF3)

I´m not sure if it was you, Art, or that I rebooted, but I can now see the banana dancing. Art also made a good point, people with epilepsy or some other neurological disorders should in general avoid flickering objects.

EDIT: The banana stopped dancing again...

Yup, I just found it out too (at least I don´t now have to restart the whole computer for that...not that I would otherwise...). Yet I don´t really want to restart FF whenever someone adds a dancing banana :D. What is more, even after a FF restart the issue appears again, so restarting FF doesn´t really resolve the problem I guess :?

While looking at this thread with FF3, the banana was not dancing. All I did to make it dance again was to force a complete refresh of the page (hold the shift key down while pressing the reload button) and the animated banana was again doing its thing. A complete restart of FF or the computer should not be needed. I would assume that it's a problem/feature of how the caching system works in the browser.

It dances for me, without any additional tricks (FF 3.0.5)
There's quite a lot going on in the smilies on the left while I'm writing this post!

Yup, I don´t have problems with the other animated smileys, just with that banana freak (I like that freak...) :D

The banana dances here

WinXp SP3 IE7.

Nope, it doesn´t (for me) :)

EDIT: It now seems to work without problems no matter if I reply to a thread containing it or just browsing around. By coincidence I enabled write caching on the disk + advanced performance under Device Manager -> Disk Drives -> Policies. I don´t know if that solved the problem :?

Weird, I have not changed anything, not restarted FF or the computer, not done a (complete) refresh as suggested by Ray, yet I see the banana dance again.
It even dances in the preview window .

I suggest  to the banana  (see my previous post). The problem seems to have resolved out of itself :)

You can say weird again, banana now dance in all windows (although it did not before)...

That is some very weird banana, or weird fox...

And to make the story even more weird, it seems to me that it started working simultaniosly for all of us that have experienced this problem before  Maybe some sort of FireFox conspiracy is going on...

EDIT: No, it´s still working... I just wanted to ask beGi: Dude, do you sleep at all? :D

Like that banana, my biorhythm is scr3wd lately...

Have some sleeping problems...

But since we're in same time zone, i suggest we go to sleep (and not together) for the sake of tomorrows sanity....

True, If I hadn´t seen your post, I would have never checked back. I just don´t understand why this happens almost at the same time and only for some forum members :?

are you sure it isn't a dancing-smiley-turned-sideways? maybe you just can't see it dance from the front...

That´s a good point! :D Thanks! I think he or she sometimes just gets tired of dancing after all that time and turns his or her side...

Is it possible that this is some kind of cache quirk related to virtual directories/redirects being used with the new forum url?

In Opera 9.63, I get different dancing behaviours depending on which url is used as the source -- though I am pretty sure that these two urls actually lead to the same file...

No dancing:
http://forum.thinkpads.com/images/smili ... banana.gif

Dancing fine:
http://thinkpads.com/forum/images/smili ... banana.gif

Can anyone else confirm that these two URLs produce different behaviours? Or is that just MY quirk?

Phil.

This is something that can usually be controlled through your browser somehow.

If using Firefox or IE 7+, try pressing ESC on the page, and that might stop all animations on the page you are currently viewing. To turn them off permanently in Firefox, you can also go in and edit Firefox preferences as explained here:
http://ffextensionguru.wordpress.com/20 ... ated-gifs/

If using Opera, you can simply press F12 and remove the checkmark from "Enable animated images". This setting can be controlled per site in Opera using right-click -> Edit site preferences.

If you actually have epilepsy or are looking for a more powerful set of tools to control such things, there are downloadable "Accessibility" toolbars for Firefox, Opera, and IE that include the option of disabling animated gifs.

Phil.
