General Software forum

I know that there is one under the ThinkPad forums, but why not have one for all IBM/Lenovo software in general?

I think that may help people with issues that tend to go un-answered under specific hardware series.

After all, doesn't a lot of the software work the same across the different lines? I.E.: ThinkVantage Access Connections, R & R software, System Updates, etc.

But we have the general hardware/software subforum. It´s a perfect place for such questions. Adding more and more subforums on specific matters would make this forum less compact IMO.

Just my 0.02$

Did I miss it somehow? I just found the one today in the ThinkPads series forum, but I am using a Lenovo branded laptop.

Does that make a difference?

Thanks for any insight you can give me.

True, sorry I didn´t pay attention that it is placed under ThinkPad Hardware. But I don´t believe this makes any real difference. I believe if you put there your questions of general hardware/software character, they will be answered as far as our 10.000+ forum members have the knowledge to :) Many threads there are anyway not really related specifically to ThinkPads or things that wouldn´t apply to any other laptop brands in fact (cet. par.).

Cheers,

Marin

I appreciate your quick answer.

It's just that I have noticed that a lot of people post in the Lenovo sub-forum and half of those posts go un-noticed / un-answered.

I happened to find that forum today while looking for answers about R & R problem I am having.

I believe the reason for this is that most of the forum members are rather ThinkPad owners and accordingly don´t visit the Lenovo subforum much. I´m sure though that you might have more luck in the (ThinkPad) general hardware/software subforum as far as the subject is really of general character. It´s a fact that the ThinkPads and Lenovo other brands share many common features/applications, so my guess is if the matter is indeed of general nature, it should receive a proper answer in the general section.

Marin

This web site is primarily a ThinkPad forum. That's not going to change anytime soon.

Well, gee, that's a given. You don't have to be so snarky about it.
I simply made a suggestion after some frustrations and observations. And as an ADMIN, I am surprised at the tone of your post.

However, this web-site also supports Lenovo products, which also use many of the same applications as Think Pads.

I don't think this Thinkpad forum really supports those odd Lenovo products (just 3000 and Ideapad) that much, they are rather a courtesy leftover from not too long before Lenovo got their own forum going.
Personally I can't be bothered about these Lenovo sub-forums, because they are NOT about Thinkpads.
And looking at the number of posts and how often they are read, the majority of members here isn't interested either.

I'd say if you don't like it here, there's nobody forcing you to stay.

To all: I believe we have quite a few forum members who own both ThinkPads and IdeaPads ;)
