Can not get into TPF Off Topic forum

#1 Post by RealBlackStuff » Sun Mar 29, 2009 9:41 am

Since two days I have problems with the Off Topic forum.
When I click on the Off Topic link on the main overview page: http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewforum.php?f=13
I get this error:
General Error
SQL ERROR [ mysql4 ]

Got error 134 from storage engine [1030]

An SQL error occurred while fetching this page. Please contact the Board Administrator if this problem persists.
I have contacted Bill, but he can't find anything, and it works fine for him (and for most, if not all, of you others).
Strangely enough, when I click on the little square behind the name of the last poster in Off Topic (on the far right), I get into that Off Topic post without any problem. But trying to get in in any other way gives me the SQL-error.

I have emptied the browser caches for both IE7 and Firefox 3.0.8, and have deleted the forum cookies.
Both IE and FF give me the same error.
When I go on another PC or laptop in my house, it all works fine, so it must be something in my own PC.
I run Eset Nod32 AV and OnlineArmor firewall.
Switching off the firewall makes no difference.
My PC is completely up to date with all M$ and other updates, and has no viruses or other critters that I am aware off.
I'm just D/L-ing Malwarebytes, see if that finds anything.

Anyone else have this problem?

EDIT: just found out that the problem lies with the forum's user-database, an SQL table which is corrupted.
Maybe only a few people have this problem, maybe a lot, but not everybody goes into the Off Topic forum regularly.
If I log out of the forum, I can go into Off Topic without any errors!
So, if you have any access problems, please post here!

LOL Yeah, it does sound that way, doesn't it?

This is the only way I've been able to figure out how to fix the problem without having to do something with the DB. Assuming RBS is able to post to the new Off-Topic board, I'll freeze the old one and move all the current threads over.

Jane,
you're a sweetheart!
All that effort!
Unfortunately I can't get into the new forum anymore.
This happened right after copying over the threads from the old forum.

A great big THANK YOU to Jane and especially Ray, to sort out this problem, that apparently only affected me.
By a process of elimination, i.e. copying the old "Off Topic" forum contents first by months, then weeks, then days, and finally single posts into the new Off Topic forum, we were able to pinpoint the one thread that caused the problem.
It's a mystery so far WHY, because I did not even post in the 'guilty' thread! (Something to do with a Kalashnikov machine gun...)

Kudos to the Staff!
