Mark forum read button question

Hello admins & mods (and others :)),

Just one question/suggestion...

Is it possible to add Mark (all) forums read button in View new posts window just like on Board index page?

IMHO that would be much simpler solution (for those who use View new posts function), because one must load main page once again just to mark forums read...

If others think that this is (or isn't) good idea, post it here...

Any feedback is appreciated...

Thank You...

I understand the problem since I deal with it almost every time I sign out of the system (go to the main index, click the Mark forums read link, then click Logout). The change requires modification of one (or more) of the site's template files, something which may or may not happen depending on the severity of the mod, the general population's need for the change and the time/inclination of the "boss".

Here's what I do when reading posts on the forums:

- after signing in and bringing up the main index page I click the "View new posts" link
- when reading a thread, I open it up into its own browser tab, leaving the new posts list alone (Firefox; middle click to open in new tab)
- I refresh the new posts page whenever I need to see if there's any recent activity
- when signing out, I go back to the browser tab with the new posts page, use the browser's Back button to go back to the index, click the Mark forums read link, then click Logout

You can also find a link back to the main index on every page that's displayed. At the top and bottom, there should be a thin section which starts off "Board index >> ...." and essentially tells you which forum you are in. The words "Board index" is a link that goes back to that page. Yes, it may simplify things to have another link of marking the forums read, but having the "Mark forum read" link in only one location reduces the chance that you will accidentally click on it.

Thanks for the tips, but I already "read" forum that way (except logout)... :)

I was hoping that that suggestion wouldn't require much modification, but nevermind if that is the case...

Thanks anyway...
