notifications using IP numbers

This last few days if I get an email notification of a reply to a post, it looks like:

Code: Select all

If you want to view the newest post made since your last visit, click the
following link:
http://67.214.227.38/~thinkpad/forum/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=88995&p=585820&e=585820
Where previously it used the domain name;

Code: Select all

If you want to view the newest post made since your last visit, click the
following link:
http://forums.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=88995&p=585454&e=585454

For one thing this is a bit of a security risk, since it's not obvious that the IP is really the same as the forum (though it is); and also as my cookies are keyed to the domain name I'm not logged in if I click on the link anyway so it doesn't work and I have to go to my normal link to the forum and then find the post in question .

Hmm... I have three notices in my email box this morning, and all three links are to forums.thinkpads.com just like it's always been. Could your case have anything to do with this: http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?f=22&t=89316

Probably.
I couldn't access the forum for long periods the last few days as well.

But the notification I just got for your message had the forum name rather than IP so it seems to be fixed.

There are (rare) times when I get a new activation request from the system which also has the IP address in the URL. Don't know why it does that but it doesn't appear to be anything too malevolent.
