What's a decent graphics card for Thinkcentre A60 (56k warn)

#1 Post by doctor bloomquist » Sat Apr 27, 2013 1:40 pm

The standard integrated, shared memory Geforce 6100 in my A60 is starting to get a bit creaky for youtube etc. What's a decent graphics card that can fulfil the following considerations? I don't need it to play games or anything too intensive.

1. fits PCI Express x16 graphics adapter, as written on the mobo next to the socket.

2. Is heatsinked rather than fitted with a fan (personal noise preference)

3. Can be powered by the stock power supply (see below)

4. is quite low budget, this machine is pretty worthless nowadays

It's a Thinkcentre A60, machine type 9374, model A3G. The processor is a 1.8Ghz AMD Sempron 3200+, and it has 1 gig of ram. Here's the power supply label:

I just picked up an Asus 5450 silent, which is performing a lot better than the integrated graphics I have to say. Strangely, there's no option for my preferred resolution, 1152x864 on a Lenovo 4x3 19inch LCD monitor. I'm currently using 1280x1024, but it's a little hard going for my poor eyes. Has anyone run into this before? I'm using the latest drivers.

Hi it's me from the future (you overcooked the chicken again) I managed to get powerstri0p to force 1152x864 but the standard dsrivers can't seem to manage it independently, hmmm.

Hi its me from the future-future. For some reason, the option for 1152x864 is retained even after you uninstall powerstrip, so it all works out in the end. Asus support were a big pile of ašš cakes, weren't they!
