As the last input I can tell that my son's WD 1TB Black drive worked like a charm. Seen by the ServeRAID and the system. So I am going ahead ordering the two 1TB Red drives at the end of the month.

That system x definitely should support 2 TB (I have *IntelliStations* that are older which do).
The problem is most likely the rebadged ServeRAID controller.
If you want to update all of the firmware and BIOS, you'll want to use UpdateXpress or BoMC (Bootable Media Creator). Often IBM lists firmwares publicly that are out of date / or flat out doesn't list them.
For instance on my System x 3300 M4 there was a RAID controller firmware update that fixed a problem with false-positive GPT corruption alerts. The public website only showed the out of date firmware as the "latest", when BoMC pulled newer firmware that wasn't public.
