Quick POST = OK. Enhanced POST = Error + Halt

My PC300GL runs perfectly, and until recently, I've only booted it using the fast ("Quick") POST.

The other day, I changed to enhanced POST, simply because I like to watch it count the RAM (I know, kinda silly). I was very surprised to get a 1780 hard drive error when booting using this enhanced POST. I then got one of those basic monochrome screens suggesting you put a bootable floppy in there, with the message of "no OS found. If I CTRL-ALT-DEL and re-start from here, it goes thru the (enhanced) POST again & is fine this time.

According to my manual, the 1780 error is either a hard drive or power supply problem. I have an almost-new Western Digital 80GB/8MB drive. However, I've always been nervous about the tiny 145 watt power supply in this machine.

Any ideas what's going on? Is my power supply (or hard drive) on the verge of some problem, or is this just a quirk? (Again the machine is working fine.) Thanks for any ideas!

update... 5 months later...

I changed the hard drive from Master to Single and the problem went away. I have no idea why... ???

I used to have a Western Digital that had a Single and a Master setting and unless there was another drive in the computer, it would refuse to work right with the Master setting selected; I had to use single. I think it has to do with the wireing.
