Desktop memory for A61

Hi guys,

I have acquired A61 desktop with Vista Home basic. It comes with 1 GB PC2-5300 667 MHz, have know idea about pin. I was wondering if someone can help me regarding to memory upgraded.
I'm kind of confused from what I have found on Lenovo website, said memory
"533MHz / 667MHz / 800MHz DDR2 (Double Data Rate) dual channel memory support
PC2-4200, PC2-5300, and PC2-6400 memory supported
Four 184 pin DDR2 SDRAM UDIMM sockets
Support for up to 8 GB of DDR2 SDRAM
ECC or parity memory is not supported "

However, most seller has for sale are 1 GB or 2 GB PC2-5300 667 MHz 240 Pin (not 184!!) and they are SODIMM, again, not UDIMM.
What's the different between SODIMM and UDIMM? I think about to add another stick of 1 or 2 GB of memory in to it. Will there be any problem to get one of those even it doesn't look exactly like what lenovo have said. Another idea is to downgrade to XP and stay with 1GB memory for now. Please advice.

"UDIMM is "Unregistered Dual In-Line Memory Module". SODIMM is "Small Outline Dual Inline Memory Module". So all this is basically telling us is the the machine takes an unregistered small DIMM. Both terms can apply to the same module. Since you already have PC2-5300 in the machine, I'd recommend the same as a replacement. Any modules at this link will work.

By the way, these are 200 pin modules, and that is what the machine requires. There is no such Thinkpad model as A61.

Thank you for the info. I followed that link but all of the memory are for Laptop. What I have found from newegg are 240 Pin for Desktop PC. Will it fit and work flawlessly in A61? http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductLi ... 8&name=1GB

No, I didn't. I don't think anyone would be interested. Anyway, I bought 2x2GB kingston PC2-5300 667 MHz 240 PIN when there was a promotion and it works perfectly fine as Harry said. Sorry, I couldn't remember where I bought it from because that was a while ago.

I have a Lenovo ThinkCentre A61e Small Form Factor computer for my main desktop. It uses laptop memory and has an external power pack just like a laptop. Nearly all of the inside of the box is filled with a ***** very big heat sink. When I upgraded recently back to 3GB, after stealing 2GB for my X60s, it said on the packet - notebook memory upgrade - PC-5300 667Mhz - 200 pin SODIMM (also compatible with 533mHz PC2-4300).

It is, supposedly very green, ie uses much less electricity. I do most things on it with lots of photo editing -
( I don't do games ), it does it all perfectly and takes up hardly any desktop space.
