Hello Everyone,
This is the IBM Desktop group.
I have an IBM NetVista A30 8314-41U that I purchased early in 2003.
It has a 2.4Ghz processor, 768Mb of ram, a 40Gb main hard drive and an 80Gb secondary drive. I have a NEC 17 inch LCD Display.
It runs Windows XP Pro Service Pack 2, Microsoft Office 2003 all patched up and secured.
I have a Netopia 3387W Ent Wireless Router / Access Point, but I wire the Desktop to the router.
I have BlackICE PC Protection and Firewall installed. This is not for mortal humans - I run it to keep up with different products, but its inability to be properly compatible with the SP2 security center and with Norton Anti-Virus is a pain in the butt.
I run Norton AntiVirus 2003. I purchased 2004 and returned it because it was a work in progress beta type product to my way of thinking. I may dump this whole setup and move to Symantec Client Security 2 like I have on my laptop.
I have VMware 4.5.2 installed and I have the following virtual machines:
1. Windows 2000 SP4
2. Windows NT4 SP6a
3. Windows 98SE
4. DOS 6.3 (IBM PC DOS)
5. RH Linux 7.0
6. RH Linux 7.3
7. RH Linux 9.0 (8 is missing because it wasn't worth keeping).
8. SuSE Linux 9.0 (needs to be upgraded)
9. Gentoo 2004 that never worked.
The networking for VMware on the Desktop is "Bridged" while the networking for VMware on my ThinkPad is "NAT".
Let us know if you have any Desktop issues and we shall try to assist.
