Window at second screen

Hi,

I have a second screen with all information programms e.g. calendar, weather, time etc. ... and the TPF window.

After a reboot, I have the window at the first screen (main screen) and must drag the window every time at the second screen.

It´s possible so save the possition at the second screen?

Hi guys! Proud owner of a T420 here. I do some light gaming from time to time. How could I remap the blue Thinkvantage button to toggle my fan between auto-mode and max speed. I remember seeing this on hackintosh and I think it would be a really cool thing to have. I already know how to remap it to open apps or run commands. If anyone could help me control my fan from the command-line that would be great. Thanks a lot.

Thank you ever so much for this fantastic software. I have a w500 and so far your masterpiece does the job perfectly, although the supported list does not contain the W series (?)

Anyhow, I have 4 questions.
1.
Why do fan speeds 2, 4, 5 and 6 not listed in the above example, are they not valid speeds levels?
2.
I checked the faq and the readme and I saw the setting similar to "Level2=50 1" before, but never "Level2=50 1 1 1", what do the second and third columns for the fan speed levels mean?
3.
I think this is a dumb question but is there any actual speed level between 7 and 64? (i'm pretty sure the answer is no, but I'd like to make sure)
4.
My goal is to not get overheated and pc shutdown in every 3-4 hours as in the past,
and your software accomplishes this perfectly.
I have no noise complaints, as only level 64 is loud for me.
Does the following setting look OK?

Level=48 0
Level=50 1 // rpm 1800
Level=55 2 // rpm 2600
Level=58 3 // rpm 3200
Level=63 3 // no actual change - downward cutoff
Level=68 6 // rpm 3400
Level=75 6 // no actual change - downward cutoff

Based on manual settings tests I have determined the above available rpm-s in my machine.

I'm not troubadix, but I'll try to answer some of your questions.

1. You need to try which fan speeds are usable for your thinkpad. Every line has it's own (I think). It means, that fan speed 2 and 3 can be the same. Maybe it has something to do with binary numbers, where hw controller looks only on certain bits (imho).
3. No. 64 is not speed as thought. It just disables any control and fan rotates at highest possible speed. For example, my previous fan in T410 was running on ~5400 rpm. My current fan runs at ~4900 rpm in the same laptop, so it's more about construction of the certain piece.
4. If your W500 shuts down due the overheating, the problem is in not in fan speed. You need to remove and properly clean your heatsink and fan. Then aply new thermal compound and properly reattach your fan back. See HW maintanance manual for your model, there is very precise step-by-step description how to do that.

Hi Troubadix. I have just bought an Thinkpad R61i 7738-A52 and I'm wondering if I should use TPControl with this model? And if so, can I use my old ini file from my T61 7665-12G without changing the values?

In my T61 the TPFC kept my laptop cool and kept the nVidia chip from "selfdestructing".

I have said it before, but it can't be said enough times, your TPFC program is a stroke of genius:)


EDIT: My beloved T61 just died(Silicone layer problem) last week, and I will be looking for a new mobo - anyone know some honest dealer nearby the Philippines?

Troubadix fancontrol and Arctic silver thermal paste - kept it alive app. 4 years longer than same model-year.

Also, Troubadix - is there a chance you could make your fancontrol to work on a Lenovo 3000 V100 - I could work with you until it works.

So far, so good. :)

Hi, thanks for the advice. I didn't want to write until i did what you said, (waiting for the thermal gel to arrive took most of time).

I took the fan part out and vacuumed the vent holes (didn't let the fan spin), I've done this from external direction before, but never directly when it was taken out. I think doing directly this still might helped a bit.

And then the actually useful bit: I cleaned the chips and put new thermal compound on it! :)

Now what is really strange that ever since my CPU usage went down 20-30%.
Is it possible that this metric is not an actual linear usage calculated from the nominal 0-100% capacity of the cpu, but rather like it is a scaling percentage, like a faster increasing temperature makes the cpu capable to provide less Mhz before reaching the danger zone, but then now it heats slower overall, therefore max usage will be capped at higher temperatures, therefore higher frequency span is available, hence the lower usage with same workload?

I think this sounds logical, but it is disgustingly misleading, LOL

So far as I see, no resource monitor displays current frequency or something that could help to gauge this situation better.
What is your opinion?

Just to come back and report that the TPFanControl program works in X200 tablet (win 7). I have not found the optimal setting yet, but it indeed changes the speed of fan on demand.

One point to mention is that I found it is better to set "UseTWR=0" for the x200T machine. Otherwise, there may be an error. I am using the v0.63 of the TPFanControl software.

My computer makes a little grinding noise when the spin speed of the fan is too high (>4.5k rpm?). This issue, I don't know how to avoid. And I may need to replace the fan since it normally run at about 50-60 Celsius degrees.
X31 (since 2003), X61T (2007), X200T (2009), ThinkPad Tablet 2 (2013), P50 (2016).
Considering more Thinkpads. Retiring my X200T. PM me if anyone wants to home it.
OS: Ubuntu and Windows 10.

Since a few days however (maybe after some recent Windows Updates), my computer refuses to go to standby or to hibernation if TPFanControl has been used since the last reboot. The screen simply turns off, but the computer remains on. To get the screen back on, I need to do a reset.

If TPFanControl was not used, everything works fine.

TPFanControl 0.63 shows exactly the same behavior.

Anybody having this problem? Any solution available? Any ideas, suggestions?

Hello.

First of all thank you very much for your hard work here.

I have a Thinkpad S430 running Windows 7 64 bits, and i'm struggling with temperature issues. I've found your tool and looked through and tried all the available versions (stable, beta and all the listed here on the forum until the v77) and i had not luck at all controlling the fan speed or even reading those values.

Some versions (v76 and v77) present some temperature values and can control the bluetooth and light successfully but regarding the temperature it seems a no go.

Do you have any suggestion for this Lenovo model, a version of the program for it, or something else that i can use? The fans are always too quiet, even when the laptop register temperatures of over 90 degrees and i'm not able to start them manually by any means...

Also, maybe clean your fan and replace the thermal paste?

Hi.

Thank you for your answer.

I tried the IBM_ECW software (both versions signed and unsigned) without success. The result is the same as i can check the CPU temperature but the fan control does not provide any change to the fan speed of the computer.

As for cleaning the fan and replacing the thermal past, i think that the fan is working properly because when the computer reboots, i ear it working at full power for some seconds, but once the computer starts up the fan just goes idle and i cannot seem to force it to go up.

Any other suggestions out there for the Thinkpad S430 model?

Hello, am wondering what method TPFancontrol uses to detemine the CPU temperature?

TPFC always seems to be at least 5 degrees c higher than the temps shown by Coretemp as shown in the screenshots. (T400 w/integrated graphics, 8GB RAM, SSD, Windows 10 Pro)

I have a L520, and I am using "tpfc_v062Lx2.zip special version for TP L520 and Edge E320 only" with it.

I have a question: is it possible to make the "Manual mode 1" lower RPM? At the moment it is 2845 RPM. On my other Thinkpads the lowest manual mode is around 1800-2000 RPM.
