We all know that the trackpoints can use the generic ''mouse behavior'' instead of the usual "normal scrolling" that is the default behavior with the synaptics driver for the trackpoint with synaptics controller. The normal scrolling has tpmiddle to get the middle click working on the middle button of the trackpoint.
The horrible generic mouse behavior has the middle click working, but the scrolling is not nice. Marblescroll works well, but there is also another software which has better scrolling:
https://github.com/ykon/w10wheel.net
here is how to configure the program
https://qiita.com/mono1729/items/053514fad59f231706bf
For the new thinkpad like the x390, the trackpoint is made by ELAN, so tpmiddle does not work at all.
There is still this choice about the good scrolling like the synaptics, but without any middle click, or the horrible generic mouse behavior with the huge icon when middle click is pressed in order to scroll. aT least Marblescroll works well and the w10wheel works too. The scrolling is better with w10wheel.
I think those software work also on the external keyboards, either the old one sk-8845 with the synaptics driver, the old ones and the sk-8855 with the driver for the sk-8855.
w10wheel does not work with the "normal scroll'' of the usual trackpoint by synaptics (or ELAN)
Even with those softwares, with the scroll setting set to the generic behavior, there is still no scrolling in some windows, like device manager. Scrolling in the window of device manager seems to work only with the normal scroll.

Another alternative I've happened across is in X-Mouse Button Control. It's a little more heavyweight than others, but if you're already using it for other applications, it's got this capability as well. Set it up by, in the Default/Applies To Everything profile, changing middle button to "Change Movement To Scroll". Subsequently, in the Movement To Scroll configuration window that pops up, change "Default Action (no movement)" to Middle Click. Works wonderfully.

Is there any way to remove the hand icon when scrolling with X-Mouse Button Control? Thanks!Viqsi wrote: ↑Mon Aug 21, 2023 2:01 pmAnother alternative I've happened across is in X-Mouse Button Control.
