Trackpoint response improvement after disabling touchpad

#1 Post by brchan » Mon May 16, 2016 9:08 pm

I just discovered that disabling the touchpad in the BIOS makes the trackpoint response MUCH smoother and lag free. I tested this on a W530, T61 and X1 thinkpad, all with the same results. Does anybody know why?
Current Thinkpads: W530 (functional classic keyboard mod), X301, T61, T60, T43, A31p, T23, 600X, 770
Other: mk5 Toughbook cf-19, mk1 Toughbook cf-53

Oddly some aspect of the palmrest/touchpad assembly controls the Trackpoint. With the palmrest cable disconnected in, say, a T42, you lose additional Ultranav options. I wonder how it works in Z61e and RXXe models which come without a touchpad, and thus no touchpad cable.
