01c9-Problem

Heya
Hi im still with this errormessage problem, did anyone try to reconfigure his internal lans eeprom instead of the wireless?
I got these boot-cd which seems to be able to do this, but to be honest im a bit scared trying it.

If that is the no-error boot CD, then follow the install instructions. Although I don't know if anybody has looked at how this goes with the LAN hardwire adapter. Did you change your wireless card and now have those errors?

no, its the first one ever used in this laptop. the other cards were PCMCIA, but this isnt relevant for the bios.
and yes its the boot-cd we're talking about (wifi.iso about 4 megs), but unfortunaly the EEPROM is write-protected on a 5005GS Chipset from Atheros.
So it isnt working.
But what i saw after the cd booted was that all system chips are shown in the setup so i "assumed" that i could work with the wired chipset as well.
I might try it if theres a working recovery option without sending the N-Book in

Maybe we can leave Pin 7 from 24C32WP on Atheros 5005GS mainboard. It can disable the write protect.

Well, there is always the option of physically masking the pins, such as my friend on this
page which also makes as to how a similar whitelist exists on the Thinkpads. Although hardware hacks, even if just temporary, are mest to be avoided and only considered the last option if software techniques tried first can't deliver satisfactory/acceptably-operational results.
I would imagine a similar trick exists given that you could mask any write protect pins, although I haven't checked it out on the very latest Atheros cards.

Good news, after cut off pin 7 for my 5005 mini pci card, it can be written now. There is no 01c9 error on my X30 machine now.

hello p4s2wd, i too need to rewrite the eeprom of my ar5005gs because the bios of my hp laptop accpets only some wireless cards, and changing the eeprom of this with one of the whitelisted ones will make the trick. i allready tried solving the issue via-software, but that has proven impossible
could you explain better how you managed to do it? how do i find the 7th pin? actually i'm a noob with hardware...
