T30 fan control?

I have downloaded the T43 control program, which Thinkwiki says is complatible with the T30, but doesn't seem to work very well. The program seems to read all the sensors, which is a step up from other software that I have found. But I have been trying to find a program to force the fan to run at full speed while I am playing a game. I have pulled the fan and cleaned the vents but a lot of heat seems to come out of the keyboard and the minipci cover.
Is there a software that can control the fans on the T30?

Hi and welcome to Thinkpads.com forum
The TPFanControl
can control a T30 fan speed. I was able to control my T30 fan using TPFanControl v0.18
Read the documentation and remember that you should edit the fancontrol.ini file included in the release as follows:
<- To allow the program control the fan speed
<- The program will start in Smart Mode automatically
Remember that using
Smart Mode you can set predetermined levels at which the fan should be triggered at a specifical speed, here are mine:
Code: Select all
Level=50 0
Level=52 1
Level=53 2
Level=56 2
Level=65 128
(128 switches back to BIOS Mode)
If you want to force the fan to run at full speed (~4100rpm) simply after making the modification to the .ini file, set
Mode: to Manual at level
7. I'd recommend you to download the TPFanControl service (which runs everytime you logon to Windows), set Smart Mode automatically (Active=2) and modify the Levels as this:

Level=31 7
Level=53 7
Level=56 7
Level=65 7
What's the max temp your T30 CPU is getting?

Highest: 64C
Holy moley! I didn't realize it was anywhere near that bad, and all the silly thing is doing is sitting here checking my e-mail.
I'll set up the service and see what I can do.

Yeah, those P4 chips can get really hot. I would always have that fan on a high speed and apply some arctic silver to the CPU. Amazingly, I know someone with an HP laptop that has a 3.43 Ghz (yes 3.43) P4 and it does not burn your lap. It has a 8800 mAh battery and only gets about 2 hours of life off of that. If my thinkpad had a 8800mAh battery, I wouldn't need to carry and AC adapter at school

And that is with the fan manually set at 7 and artic silver on the heatsink.

That's an OK temperature with the type of processor you have. Arctic Silver really helps to lower your temps.
