I installed the active protection program for my hard drive from lenovo today. it's really cool to see the accelerometer work and stuff but if i just budg a little when i'm using my laptop while i'm listenin to music or watchin videos on youtube, the HD stops for a second because all this data is temporarily stored on HD space by vista.

it's a bit annoying even with the ignore repetitive motion thing on; every once in a while, my HD locks up for a sec unexpectedly.. i dunno.. is it really worth keeping this thing on? has anyone had HD failures with laptops that actually physically damaged the laptop with it turned off? an oh ya.. the HD head doesn't retract until after impact... i tested this on my bed.. if i drop my thinkpad from stationary position, it will only stop the HD like half a second after it makes impact with the matress.. kinda makes the accelerometer thing a bit useless...

I pulled my T41 off a table in a London hotel in 2005 - wide open and running. In addition to no damage, the HD protection system did its thing, stopped the drive and no damage there. I am using the machine as we speak.

So, NO, I would not delete the tool. It doesn't bother me in the least, and has saved my bacon. ... JDH

Open Active Protection, slide the bar left to Medium instead of Maximum on the right. You're good to go.
