Request: Linux port or simliar

So, I'd love to hear what you guys think about a windows implementation of this feature. I hope I'm not the only one that uses a Instant Messaging client (Pidgin is great by the way.. spellcheck and auto-replace, simple, and other plugins available) and would be interested in blinking the Thinklight when an IM is waiting. Thoughts?

Maybe this link would be helpful in the development process, I'm no programmer but my buddie who is getting his master's in Comp. Sci. (but sadly is a linux guru, d@mn you penguin!!!) says "since there's an API for it, it should be doable and someone with a little windows/gtk development skills should be able to do it". I have no idea what that means but it sounds ... well... scary...
