Multi-gesture Synaptics touchpad driver for XP, Vista & 7

#1 Post by beGi » Sat Mar 20, 2010 6:42 am

This is (un)official Synaptics touchpad driver that unlocks multi-gesture capabilities on your ThinkPad's touchpad.

Why "(un)official"? Because it is made for HP notebooks, not Thinkpads, but it works fine as long your touchpad is manufactured by Synaptics.

Links:

Windows XP

Windows Vista & 7

It works flawless on my R60, I haven't played with it much, so I did not discover all of drivers capabilities...

So post if it works on your model (and name it), and post if you find some new gestures (I use trackpoint most of the time, but I like that two-finger scrolling)...

Until Lenovo makes its own version (I'm unaware if it exists, someone correct me if it does), this one will do just fine...

TouchPad lovers, enjoy, because your touchpad has just resurrected...

EDIT: My system is 32-bit, so I don't know if it works on 64-bit OS (although other reports say it works just fine).

Two-finger scrolling, three-finger press (opens favorite app) and three-finger flick (enhances navigation for a variety of applications) are now supported.

Update:

The trackpad on the T41 is a little bit small for the 3 finger flick (at least for me) 8)

I have same problem on my R60, touchpad is rather small (or my hand is rather large), but i noticed that if I keep my fingers together (no space between them) there is enough room to preform it...

I have trouble managing it with my fingers together, I am always a little bit slow with the third finger, and it switches into scrolling mode.. Apparently I have larger than average hands. (I have had random people tell me I have huge hands)

Just confirming that this works on my T400 7x64 system.

Although the multi-touch gestures are cool; the lack of configurability for the TrackPoint scroll is making me go back to Lenovo drivers.

So it does work on on new thinkpads and 64-bit systems...good...

TrackPoint configuration works just fine on my system with same drivers (sensitivity, button reprogramming etc), except push-to-select, but IIRC Thinkpads could never do that (hardware limitation?)...

I'm using Windows7 64bit on T400 and I wonder how to install this driver.
Should I uninstall ultranav driver first? Or just install this driver?
And can I still use track point after installing this?

Thanks.

Uninstall previous synaptics software, and then install new...

Your trackpoint will work as before (atleast mine did)...

Ach! The TrackPoint middle scroll button no longer worked for me as it did before. Does it still work for you guys?

Hm... I did not notice that, no, scrolling function on midlle button for trackpoint doesn't work for me either, sort of, because it works fine inside firefox and word, but not in some other apps...

But except that middle button works just fine...

Doesn't bother me though, since i use my touchpad exclusively now...

Touchpad is easier on my hand/fingers/wrist than trackpoint, now that touchpad is multigesture enabled (i guess i got tired of trackpoint, since i used it exclusively in pre-multigesture trackpoint era)...

YMMV... ;)

I think you can modify configuration to make the scroll works.

The menu path is mouse - properties - Device Settings - Pointing Stick - Settings - Buttons - Middle Button - Scroll with pointing stick while button is pressed.

This driver is infinitely better than what comes with the T410. I wonder why lenovo gimps their drivers?

Just tried this with my R60. Works fine! I find it useful for my purposes so far and think I will keep this installed instead of Lenovo's "ultranav" program. I will have to tinker around with the settings to get the trackpoint manageable but the TP is working in all applications so far. The option of two-finger scrolling is very nice! I am not sure what three finger gestures are significant for but the option to use it is there.
