forum.thinkpads.com Google Search Script

I was looking for a way to create a google search engine/script for this site that could be added to IE7 and Firefox, and hopefully registered with the mycroft project so it could be search-able/added by all. I found this site;

https://developer.mozilla.org/en/Creati ... or_Firefox

and the mycroft site;

http://mycroft.mozdev.org/

Here is the Google search URL for this site;

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&clie ... tnG=Search

My problem is that I am not proficient at creating scripts etc of this nature, but I will be giving it a shot as time permits. If any member also wants to take a crack at doing this it would be appreciated by every member I am sure.

Well, I found one way to do it. Not as elegant as the above but it works. Go to this website;
https://www.squarefree.com/bookmarklets/search.html

Click and drag the 'google site search' bookmarklet onto the Firefox bookmark toolbar, or add to IE favorites. Navigate to this website (forum.thinkpads.com) then click on the bookmark. Type your search terms and off you go.

I'd still like to find a way to create a custom search engine to add to the list of search engines in Firefox or IE ...

Harry,

This isn't a script, but it's how I've been doing it for a number of sites. Make an Advanced Search in Google, and simply bookmark/favorite it with an appropriate name, like "Google Thinkpads.com Search."

Here's the URL I just made for this:

http://www.google.com/advanced_search?q ... as_qdr=all

Check it out and it may do exactly what you want, albeit without the elegance of a script or add-on. All you have to do it right-click and bookmark it as-is.

I don't think so, the one you gave me is for Thinkpads.com. This site is forum.thinkpads.com.

I see that now, though it's really (no offense) irrelevant. The forums come under the aegis of thinkpads.com, the way these things work, and if you try mine you'll find it returns results from the forums.

Thanks for the tweaking though!

Yes, but your link also returns results from the thinkpads.com blog site, so if I want to search just this site it is not irrelevant (no offense). Thanks again.

Yeah, I hardly ever go to that area and didn't notice how much content Bill has there now. Obviously I'm not paying attention to what it says in your very own signature!

Your version of the search was very useful yesterday when the board was down while I was trying to restore my T42 -- it still searched the last indexed version Google had, and then I was able to click on the "Cached" option on the Google search results page after each hit to get the information I needed. A useful tip if it happens again. :)
