Thinkpad T22 won't power on

#1 Post by tselling » Mon Aug 17, 2009 11:16 am

I have several Thinkpad T20 series laptops that I maintain for my husbands 6th grade class. One of the T22's that worked last school year won't power on now. The HD light flashes for a sec and that thats it. I swapped the main battery from another T22 but still no joy. Any thoughts if fixable? Could a bad CMOS battery cause this problem? I didn't want to take the laptop apart unless I have some expectation of fixing it. Any suggestions? Thanks.

That laptop has developed the infamous BOD (blink of death)

Given the symptoms, I will say that this is the BoD problem.
We have been discussing this error so much, that someone (believe it was Ray) has given it a name - BoD - Blink Of Death.

We can point you to a specific chip that you may try to replace. That is, if you can find a replacement chip and do the soldering.
Anyway, trying to repair the motherboard will be rather time consuming, so most likely, you do not want to do that.

Replacing the motherboard seems to fix it. Any T20, T21, T22 board will do.

Thanks for the info. I was able to search on BOD to get more info. I will probably use this one for parts or get another T2x machine with smashed LCD and swap systemboards.

No, that wasn't me that came up with that appropriate moniker. I have previously attributed that to AbsoluteRaleigh:
