T 30 system board repair Flextronics didn't test to Internet
T 30 system board repair Flextronics didn't test to Internet
Well, with the help of this site I was able to resolve isolating my long term problem. When I'd type on the T30 keyboard it would sometimes produce a blue screen or some other radical screen display.
Ah yes, the RAM socket(s) on the system board. By placing pressure on the DOSIMMs the
computer would function normally.
My T30 is out of warantte so I had to pay the full boat ($475) for a repair by Lenovo's contract repair and return contract service folks, Flextronics. Tt was completed and returned within the 6 business days. When I first plugged it in it appeared to be working just as it should until I connected the 100baseT RJ45 cable to my server. As requested, they did not re image my hard drive:)
The computer wouldn't connect to the Internet via my server. When I went to MY Network Places and Viewed new looking ICONs they are different looking and must be from another rev level of flashed ROM giving an ICON of system 7 graphical appearance:(
Anyone know what is going on and why I get the computer to detect or talk to the network?
How frustrating. The first Lenovo tech support person in Atlanta sent me off to a software support person in the Phillipines who tried to upgrade me to a $100 support fee. Finally I spoke with Lenovo tech support in Atlanta about this outcome and after lots of push back and three different tries, I found a specialist who's understood enough about the problem and is talking me into creating a new case number and sending me a second box to return the computer. I'm not sure this is a safe alternative.
Is there any way to trouble shoot and figure out what happened to prevent 100baseT connectivity via the RJ45 jack?
Thanks

A bit late now, but you should have come to this forum much sooner.
That T30, even after the repair, is not worth much more than maybe $100.-
With the broken motherboard it was not worth more than maybe $40.- for parts
The $475.- repair is a very painful experience (but then, Lenovo repairs are never cheap, if out of warranty).
For that money you could have bought a nice T420 or T520.
Or you could have bought a used motherboard for about $50.-
Maybe you need to set your router's network password on your laptop?

Black Feather
I had thought long and hard about buying a new Thinkpad but decided it would cost about $1400 for all the software to set up for System 7 and pay for the new laptop. In addition there are programs that I can't copy even though a new System 7 LT could be loaded.
Yes, someday I'll have to cut the cord on XP but I'm not ready.
The laptop with the new system board runs well except for not functioning with 100baseT I/O.
And the server pass word isn't in play as part of the problem.
Thanks for your thoughts. I'm looking for a more technical view of my issue, not a techno economic suggestion.

Do you have any yellow signs in your Device Manager?
When connected via ethernet, click on Run, type in CMD and click OK.
In the DOS box type in: ipconfig /all and hit Enter.
Can you copy/paste here what you see?
Have you tried reinstalling the ethernet driver?

Press F1 to enter BIOS on boot.
Is there a MAC address in there?
