T22 for Programming help

Alright, so I've got a free IBM Thinkpad T22 from my uncle.

Battery is dead but I'll shell out 20 for a battery and the hard drive is dead and I don't know what kind of hard drive to get.

I know I need PATA but is there a limit to how much storage can be on it? How about the buffer size of the HDD? I'm looking at a nice Spinpoint 160G 5400rpm 8mb buffer for about 70 bucks. Will it work? Is there a better deal I can get somewhere else?

I'm also thinking about upgrading it a bit. Will 512MB PC100 RAM work? I might do two for a gig total. If I can't I'll just buy one 256. It came with two 128mb but it's kinda slow.

The processor is fine though, 900mhz is all I need since I'm going to either be using DWM or Openbox on Ubuntu anyway. Seems like a no frills machine I'd use for programmming.

It's a Type 2647-8CU if that helps at all.

The T22 takes only 2x256 = total 512MB RAM PC100.
Largest PATA HD on the market is 320GB.
Your Samsung selection (HM160HC) is an excellent drive.

Thanks, so it should work right out of the gate no problem?

Also, I heard that you can use PC133 if all of the RAM is PC133. Can you really do it and if so will it use it at that speed or will it underclock to PC100?
